I realise it’s quite some time yet but we’re thinking of spending the coming Xmas away so any suggestions for a site where Xmas day lunch can be booked locally at a pub would be appreciated along with pub name if possible. Prefer to be within reasonable walking distance of site as don’t want to drink & drive.  Any suggestions welcome.

Not too concerned about distance in England, Scotland would be out as we have in the past been there for New Year with friends.

For a good choice of eateries within walking distance I'd try Moreton in Marsh. smile

It depends how deep your pockets are.  You can get an £86 Christmas Day lunch on the Devon/Cornwall border at the Arundell Arms at Lifton provided you book months ahead - and even at that price it's packed - with an open all year CL just up the road at North Lodge Lifton

I second Moreton in Marsh too. Book early though, missed it this year co's left it too late. Finished up at Chapel Lane,  Wythall,  Birmingham

Good site and there was an eatery a couple of miles down the road.

Troutbeck Head is open till Jan 2018 in the Lakes disrict. You have the Troutbeck Head Inn which is about 30 minutes walk. Shame about not wanting Scotland, Melrose is open all year , right in the village, and three local pubs and restaurants offer 10% discount to club members

The Chatsworth CC site is open with a selection of eateries in Baslow a 15 minute walk from the site. You are also ideally placed for walking around the Chatsworth estate from your pitch to burn off the calories. Haven't checked about availability though!

I'd also go with Moreton in Marsh, a reasonable journey from where you are in Dorset. Loads of eateries in the village. Alternatively, also in the Cotswolds, Broadway or Cirencester Park would fit the bill. But all three sites are very busy at Christmas/New Year.

You could always go to Seacroft site at Cromer and have the great xmas dinner in the site complex ,also its an easy walk into Cromer,to take in the end of the pier christmas show (really good) and while in the area if you book early enough the Thursford Christmas show (fabulous)

What are these "eateries" that  many of you refer to? It's a new word to me. Are they real restaurants serving Christmas dinner on Christmas Day? Are they hotels serving meals to non residents on Christmas Day.? Or are they giving the staff the day off?

A colleague of mine once had the bright idea of a flight to Rome on Christmas Eve and found that McDonalds was the only place open the next day. Christmas Day burgers.

Hope you find somewhere nice. We had a few days at the Exmoor House site, Dulverton for New Year and although a small town there are a variety pubs and restaurants etc to have a meal out.

Eurotraveller I use the word "eateries" to cover a variety of places it's been in common usage for a long time...my Gt Grandmother ran an "eating house" in Dorset in the 1870s! laughing

Thanks Brue . So will they be open on Christmas Day 2017 for Christmas Dinner?

Lots of restaurants here in this part of Cornwall and also in Plymouth  were very definitely closed on 25 December last year. I phoned about half a dozen and got the answer No.

Yes second that we are there now and it is freezing but there is always a warm welcome and the local pubs are great and only a two min walk.

So, if you fancy heading to Cornwall, you could try staying at Ayr Holiday Park, fantastic views of St. Ives and Porthmeor beach and a twenty minute stroll into town. Many eateries there and a great atmosphere over the festive period.

Never been in the van Christmas but what about Broadway as several pubs/restuarants and hotel in about 20 mins walking distance.  Also Cirencester lots of places in town?  Wish we could go away for Christmas but too many family issues.
