Price Overkill

So don't pay it, I wouldn't, I doubt you would. It's no biggie, why the shock?, if anyone pays it they will do so because they want to. Power to em.

Know it do you?
I'm not defending CC prices by any means but the site is unique and I think it very likely that it's location will attract high running costs.
As Rocky said, you don't have to use it.

We arrived on spec with the caravan around 27 years ago ( that is how we always toured back then) but they were full.

Should have booked! It's a long way from up north to arrive on spec but it proves the site was popular and you'll appreciate the unusual situation.

Well, I have to say that there has ben an awful lot of twaddle talked on here.
I epecially dislike the sneering comments along the lines of "if you cannot afford Club sites, then don't go there"
Plenty of people pay 'top dollar' for products that are really only average, whether they can afford it or not.
Believe me, that does not in any way make you superior. Quite the reverse, in fact.

Non one uses the price bands to work out their cost, as anyone said they do?
Corners, you cannot assume that no-one does that, as we do look at the price bands, and decide whether or not he cost of a stay on a club site falls within or outside of our chosen cost per night, As we do over 250 nights a year we would certainly not be able to afford to stay away that long if we didn't choose carefully how much we will pay.

Nearby Ramslade ranges from £19.90 to £28 at peak for two, with EHU. So the quoted figures for steamer key don't seem excessive, particularly at peak, where a comparison with Ramslade would mean you are paying £8.60 for your EHU connection.

I fail to see great difficulty in understanding club prices. I decide when I wish to go and look at the price for that date. Where is the problem? Easy enough on a tablet or laptop etc. I accept that some pones may have a problem but that is due to the website and the phone app.
Some consider CC sites too dear but whenever I look at nearby commercial sites there is usually little to choose price-wise during the times I tour.
Comparison of CC site prices with overseas is an irrelevance if one wishes to holiday in the UK. Comparison of individual sites with nearby commercials does make sense.
As the adjacent sites rarely seem cheaper for me, save from a couple of quid on occasion, I stick with CC as I like what they offer. If there is an AS available instead I will use that and generally have been pleased enough with them. If neither available then a commercial.

As someone posted that hotels are cheaper than club sites, the one I am in now would have cost me £130 per night just for me. I suppose you do get an all you can eat cooked breakfast which I have just taken full advantage of! Luckily I'm not paying, you are

well actually I'm working for the club's Patron's OH
(I meant you as a generous tax payer)

The description for Steamer Quay looks ok to me, economy (non EHU) and a facilities block. Remember this site isn't a rural field, it's in the centre of Totnes in a prime spot by the Dart and the lease/rental costs must be quite high. We use this site and don't mind paying more to be in such a good spot, I'd be sad to see this one go!

But the opposite is also true, especially in school holidays. In many cases club sites work out cheaper - see my example earlier Moorhampton CC for five nights over Easter at £97 or Ludlow Touring park for £171.
Moorhampton has HS, EHU, toilet and shower - what other facilities would I want?

no doubt, rhetorical?

And in many cases these fixed peak prices are horrendous to counter act the lower prices off peak, what did someone mention on this thread £70 per night?
I've said it before and I'll say it again for most (if not all) club sites in a location, there will be cheaper and more expensive sites nearby. You make your own mind up how much you want to spend or afford.
Also what extra facilities are you talking about?

CS did not write that at all. Check before posting incorrect statements

Certainly not my experience that commercial sites are consistently cheaper unless discounts for a full week etc.
As for more facilities then some may have but doubtful that they would interest me personally.
So in addition to my not finding them cheaper (I don't holiday in Jan, Feb, Mar, Aug, Oct, Nov and only use a particular CC site for a December break as it location suits) I usually find the wifi more expensive. As I am away a fair number of nights I find the CC annual wifi charge is fine and I find the provisions fine as well on my equipment. My experience of commercials is often no wifi other than at a designated point such as a cafe perhaps or expensive. There are exceptions but that is what I tend to find in England and Wales. Not much wifi when I tour Scotland

More informative than the raft of prices would be "Late Availability" notices for week days on the updated IT system. Would be very useful for those of us who constantly move when away and could help to fill those vacancies at quieter times.
