Just about to buy a 2016 Q5 3ltr with the factory fitted swivel tow bar. However I see lots of discussions of the problems some have had with retro fit bars in respect of feed to the fridge whilst towing.

This led me to wonder if the Alko ATC will function correctly when I hook up?

Does anyone have any comments regarding the Factory fitted bar as opposed to retro fit bars??

So I have found out additional info regarding factory fitted tow bar for Audi Q5 and I guess all Audis.  The factory fit comes with a 13 pin socket but only 7 pins are live. They supply an extended loom to liven up the remaining 6 pins that I Audi fit for £197.  Be aware though, service desk took nearly all day to install and told me the install figure was under quoted for he work required. Ha Ha: a quote is a quote!.

I shall be plugging in the van this weekend to check all functions and revert with an update.

OK guys. I tested the electrics this weekend. the ATC works as does everything else.

Outcome: Factory fit bars on Audi appear to be wired for 7 pin electrics only despite having a 13 pin socket. the extra wiring loom supplied and fitted by Audi solves the problem but may be expensive. I paid £196 but think I was lucky.

Have a BMW 5 with factory fitted towbar. Found out after a year of ownership that the fridge is not wired.  BMW dealership I got the car from had the car for a week and refused to do anything about sorting the problem.  However, a technician from my local dealership gave me the parts I needed and I sorted the problem myself, quite easily and it took an hour.  Apparently this is standard practice by Audi and BMW.
