Price Overkill

But surely other posters (who possibly have greater experience of using a wider variety of sites, other than just CC sites) also have the right to express an opinion that CC sites are generally very expensive, for what they offer?
Without being told to leave the club.....

Good value is difficult to quantify , we used to go to .Black Knowl every year ,but because last year it was closed we went to Setthorns and IMO it made Black Knowl look not very good value from what we thought of it , so sometimes if we don't try something new we can't judge wether it is good value or not
for me , every one should holiday where they want without trying to justify it

It's a pity this thread has drifted from its original intention to the same sort of club/non club and UK/European arguments that blighted the previous incarnation of this forum.
We all choose where we want to go (that's surely the number 1 priority?) and then we decide what we're willing to pay - i.e. what we consider good value, and that is entirely subjective.
For those who argue that club sites are too expensive, a sobering thought - we've just booked 5 nights away over Easter weekend. We had two alternatives within a few miles of each other - Moorhampton CC site for £97 or Ludlow Touring park for £171. Guess which we thought was best value?!!

Fair comment HD, everyone should indeed.

More actually but hey I'm not one to contradict. Yes AD spot on, very good maths

I think most people on here spends somewhere between 35 pounds per year and seventy thousands pounds per year on holiday?
That's a huge range, what's your point?

How do you know it's not absolutely true, AD? If never pays to jump to conclusions.

AD, I've read your posts over the years & shook my head at some of your claims, but never once have I ever considered questioning them. Short of actually dragging out receipts, pictures of me paying money(I have no pics before you demand them) I cannot give you proof. For a cynic & doubter even then you'd probably continue in your bluster. I care not one jot if you believe or not, I'll survive

sorry what was my argument? I was merely responding to an unclear post from your self in a lighthearted banter sort of way, Hardly worthy of an insult from your good self.
For the record my last year's last full family foreign summer holiday was actually 10 times the usual amount I normally spend on staying on a English club site for the same number of people and the same amount of time. Figures available on request

I think you will find that I did not complain about "not being able" to go to club sites, rather that we choose not to as we consider them to be increasingly poor value for money due to above inflation increases and peak season creep.
Like many others no doubt, we have a "holiday budget" and if we used only club sites our holidays would be much curtailed.
I have what I consider a decent pension, but not every pensioner is so fortunate, so there must be others, and not only pensioners either, who genuinely are being priced off CC sites.
Certainly we have seen lots of comments about price levels in the last couple of years.
Comparing costs of sites run by 2 Caravan Clubs in 2 similar cost, similar standard countries seems to me to be a valid comparison.

this thread starting to move along the same lines....not white lines...

No, I don't think its valid to compare two countries at all, Mainly this is the UK touring section and we are discussing UK sites fees.
Also I have no idea of local taxes in Holland or the all the others factors affecting prices. I've done some quick analysis and you might as well ask why does unleaded cost 1.67 euros in Holland and only 1.34 here? http://www.fuel-prices-europe.info/
Really sorry but if you cannot afford to go to club sites then you can't go. It is not a basic right to caravan

At one point we were living on club sites for almost 7 months of the year. Over the last 5 years the prices have increased, and I accept it is not just the CC that have increased but it reached the stage when one visit to Brighton Club site in August turned out to more expensive to stay at than our friends were paying to stay in the local Travelodge. That led to a huge step change for us. We spend most of our time in Europe where we spend on average 8Euros a night , better weather and closer to towns and cities we want to visit. Another nail in the coffin for Rip off Britain.
To keep to the thread IMHO we should have one fixed price for each site for a particular year.

thanks Stewart.....yes my OP was about the multitude of prices rather than comparisons with overseas (a separate ongoing debate.....) however, its apparent that (notwithstanding the variations for MWD) that there are many seperate prices where a 'seasonal band' change has been insered where the price differential is very small, like 20p....
its this penny pinching approach that often grates....
why is a site worth 20p more a week later in the year than the day/week before?...
and why (what are these) so many 'seasons' and other abitrary changes?...
why not just three simple 'low/med/high price bands rather than six or seven....?
eg, hillhead (from the OP) has 7 different adult prices, 5 different child prices and 5/6 (lost count) pairs of pitch prices (taking into account) MWD....so a dozen different pitch prices....some with tiny variations.

ah, so we are all 'penny saving'......sorry, Alan, i missed that....
good old CC

Bottom line is that a significant proportion of the posters on this forum consider the CC pricing structure is (1) too complicated and (2) overpriced for what it provides.
3 -
A possibly more relevant question which the CC needs to know the answer to is:
'are members (individually) spending less nights on Club sites than they were 5 years ago and is that a trend that could continue'
0 -
Another viewpoint:
How often does someone reply on here with the comment that 'views on here don't represent the views of the bulk of the CC who don't post on CT'
How does anyone know? - the bulk of advertising and product development depends on customer research of a minute percentage of the population. Is not CT representative of the rest of the members?
