Price Overkill

Because of the way Haven etc price structure and the way they have to keep a large complex running ,their main income is as a holiday camp, which is why the eye watering prices at peak times, that subsidise the loss leaders off peak
As Simon Calder the holiday guru says most of the leisure industry runs at a loss of peak

Does everyone accept the following (even the doubters) :
if off peak prices were reduced and it was found that the increase in usage created more income this would be a Win/Win
The only way to prove whether the above would work is to have a trial at some sites. IMO reduction in off peak prices does not go hand in hand with increases at peak

Rather a strange question. If the price increase created more overall income, after deductions for increased service costs, of course it would be win win. However, midweek deductions are already in place at many sites and I am doubtful further reductions would significantly increase usage.
However, as you say the only true test would be to trial it. Unless the project was at least self financing, it would in my opinion ultimately lead to increases at other times. The easiest time being peak school holidays, when sites are full and price rises more likely to be tolerated.

I think showing all the prices is the correct way to do this, although some sites will produce quite a lengthy list it is good practice to show all the prices to customers. Any "extras" like service pitch prices are a constant that will be added to the price.

but why are we 'able' to add on the SP charge for ourselves, yet are aparrently incapable of applying a MWD (not a constant, where available, just like SPs?) without a comprehensive matrix.
if the club are going to go overboard with a vast list of prices, then lets have it all....MWD, SP the lot....
perhaps they are selectively dumbing us down?....

In which case why are you complaining about club sites prices being too high for you, just keep going to Holland. Around 12 to 14 pounds per night including ferries? Just go there?
Petrol maybe?

We were obviously at one point judged to be able to calculate 50% of a pitch fee for MWD. We now obviously are judged to no longer be able to do so, hence the breakdown of each period of MWD.
We are seemingly still capable of doing a simple calculation by adding the cost of SP to the price of x number of adults/children and pitch fee.
If we do well this year in our calculations, then maybe next year we won't have to trawl through a long list again

It does occur to me that on the previous incarnation of this forum a number of folk used to complain about the club not being up front enough about pricing. Maybe the new way of listing prices is a response to that?
(Not saying that justifies it, only suggesting a possible reason!)

I read your OP without checking BB....I now see the list does include service pitch pricing and the midweek discounts, so there you are, all the calcs are done for you. All plain and clear and no the CC haven't made it up, they've got it right.

Is it just the type of device I am using? (iPad 3) but I am certainly getting the costs for service pitches, both with and without awning. They are on the far right of the list. Only for sites that have these pitches of course.
One thing showing them does make clear, which wasn't made obvious before, is the affect of MWD. The prices clearly show you are only getting a discount equivalent to half the standard pitch fee, not half the service pitch fee, as some may think.

In reply to a previous post. I suppose the service costs are on top of the pitch fee so it's just the basic pitch fee which is reduced. I can't be bothered to trawl through more info or try out other devices. As far as I can see the info is not quite as the OP suggested and the CC have provided a comprehensive list of prices which is what most customers want to see?
Sorry I'm out!

AD, you miss the point-value is subjective, what you class as value is not the same as me or others & vice versa. If £30+ cost was where I wanted to be then it would be excellent value.
1 -
You've actually agreed with Rocky, AD, by saying you have a different view of what constitutes value. That's the whole point - we have differing views of the concept of value. 👍🏼
1 -
No problem, AD.
1 -
AD, regardless of where in the World we both go we have a different view on value, neither of us is right or wrong-just different. You actually enjoy driving all over Europe to have your Holidays, I don't. I will pay 5/10 times more for luxury(value driven) Tis life.

Don't worry, that is exactly what we will be doing this year!
We will have about 63 nights "over there" in various countries, plus 12 nights in UK before we go, and 10 nights on our return, mainly on CLs.
Diesel for the car is cheaper in most countries than in UK, so certainly not a consideration. LPG is also cheaper.
I notice also that the 11 euro per night Club fee in Holland applies all year round, so great value for peak holiday periods too when the ACSI card is not accepted.

fully agree with you R2B, but alas some will not accept that others (folk who actually book club sites) may think that the club is good value and worth paying the price set. If you don't think its good value I fully respect that view and simply don't go to club sites. But equally I wish these people would let those of us do like club sites to be given the same consideration, and respect our choices rather than label us as this enthusiasm for high prices in our country.

Good point, David.
Unfortunately there are a few that get very, very upset at any suggestion that the CC might be doing anything wrong. This invariably results in a strop and rude replies, like the one you refer to, and suggestions to leave the CC.
Most unpleasant and not welcome on a friendly forum like this.

so if you are why keep complaining about not being able to go to club sites?

Good post, Corners. It's simply good manners to respect the views of others by accepting everyone has a right to their own opinion as we all measure value and quality by different yardsticks.
