Red Funnel - cost of ferry

The last time we went to the Isle of wight was in 2015, using Red Funnel. The cost at that time was £183-59 return for a saloon car and 21 ft caravan, mid July.

This year we planned to return to the Isle of Wight and checked with the Caravan Club for ferry cost for mid July and same times. I was quoted £293-59, an increase of £110- 00 on 2015. An average increase of £55-00 a year. Out of curiosity I checked with Wight Link who quoted £400 for the same dates and times. £216-41 more than Red Funnel in 2015. Needless to say, we will not be going there again.

While we were there in 2015 we thought it less busy than previous years. While speaking to local traders and people we know who live on the island, they told us that business has dropped a lot due to the cost of the ferry crossing. I don't know what the answer is, but I feel sorry for the people who live there. Has this put you off going there?

not sure about mid july, bit there are often deals (incl 5 nights camping) that we have used and these started at £99 a few years back.

last time we used it the price was £121 (from memory)...

We tend to use Wightlink, the prices vary according to the time of day and whether it's a long or short stay etc. There are usually quite a few deals going either with Wightlink or a participating camp site.

We went in 2013 with our motorhome and I think the Red Funnel fare was about £89 but we did book the campsite as well. I know things go up but surely not by that much!!!

Not sure about July, but in June it costs about £150 more to use the ferry to Caen plus you get 5 Camping Cgeques thrown in!
