Price Overkill

Well I've said it before and I'll probably say it again, K, - we have more in common than you could possibly imagine!
I would think most people feel the same way - why worry about what places cost when you aren't going to be there?
It rather reminds me of a guy we came across on a holiday in Crete a few years back who seemed to do nothing but ask people how much they'd paid for the week and then complain about the fact that they had got a better deal than himself. Didn't seem to be enjoying his holiday one little bit!

If you read the whole of my post you will have noticed the bit about specific reason. Chatsworth was to meet my niece after 24 years.
The fee at Chatsworth was £40.30 per night. Where have I said it was 'too high'? I have stated it was the highest fee we have paid in this caravanning lark. You are evidently supportive of the smoke and mirrors employed by the CC in your indefensible attempt to break out the £4.90 service pitch as an 'extra' in line with your attempt to paint non CC sites that charge extras, however the examples I use are fees paid for a family with a caravan, the pitch type and services used, as in my story.
In the days of yore when you had a family holidaying the CC may have always been cheaper. A common comment we hear on CC sites and amongst caravaners is how the fees at CC sites have gone up so much in recent years. However in 2015/16/17 in our experience CC is not the cheapest. We have also had no issues or concerns around quality of sites. Our second ever CC site holiday had porta loos in a muddy field at top price by comparison to the commercial site the previous week. Not had porta loos on other sites over the decades we have been camping in various guises.
Chatsworth, despite your constant inferences, was not pretty well booked up when we were there in the school summer holidays last year, my post gave the occupancy and the ease with which the booking was made 3 weeks prior to arrival. Were you on site that week in order to report a different fact of occupancy? No, thought not!! tongue-out
I've posted before of your modus operandi in respect of defending till the death your factually incorrect view through rose tinted glasses. My posts are relaying facts, not complaints around fees. The fact remains, as much as you may not like it, that in our experience as a family, the CC fees are the highest of what we have paid. My opinion, which you clearly are not interested in, nor it appears those of anyone else who dares to post different to yours in respect of the CC, is that as a family the CC is not attractive with their prices and commercial offerings in family holiday times provide more for less.I hope you educated children to have open minds and question validity of what they are told tongue-out Not bollock them for having the audacity to even think to challenge outdated mindsets.
fwiw my view of Chatsworth is summed up in my site review. A glorified car park in a previous country house walled garden. 2 other country house CC sites we have stayed at are far better for ambience, facilities and fees in our limited CC experience, but each to their own views, hey. tongue-outIf you read the whole of my post you will have noticed the bit about specific reason. many have commented in the 'CL price' thread that they have an absolute maximum (presumably based on what they can afford....) so i would presume that there will be a similar section of the membership who have li its when booking club site/commercials.
perhaps they end up going for (say) 12 nights rather than 14?
youre right, the prices are there for all to see, but you need dark glasses as your hit right between the eyes with the mind boggle array of combinations.....
surely less is more .......sometimes?
ps, Corners....isnt the Service Pitch price £3.90 not £4.90?

David thanks for your thoughts.
We used to go on the continent with the MH regularly using Aires, Stelplatz, small sites etc. Also lots of 'owner club' trips in the UK and continent, that were always very low cost as the group would bargain for pitches. But that was before our daughter was at school when we had no timetable!!
Yes we are tied to school holidays but don't actually know when we can get holidays, the downside of the business I'm in, either flat tack away from home, or flat on me back!!. So most of our bookings are last minute or at best a few weeks out. If lucky might get 2 weeks in the school summer holidays. Last year we had 2 weeks, first and last. The year before that we got a month and went to Oz & Malaysia, and previously Oz, NZ, Singapore, Dubai at very reasonable per diem fees.
We did say for the first year of caravan ownership we'd stick to the UK and see where we go after that. We want to go to France with our caravanning friends that gave us the shove to change from a small Mh to the full fat caravan, for 3-4 weeks, but it will be business dependant.

BB, the service pitch price in peak is £18.30, the non service is £13.40. Take the two away, ie 18.3 - 13.4 = 4.9 not 3.9
can't give you any marks for that BB at all, come back for extra lessons will you?

thank you for your well thought out answer, Could I ask why you feel the need to insult me and your use of swear words in making your points?

Corners, he liked it so much he said it twice. I detect picking up the seeds scattered by others there.

or BB can't do sums? At best you should have checked BB

yes, happy to admit a mistake....
i wrongly assumed SP prices were the same across the network, obviously not....though i now seem to remember that this might be as there is a black waste on these pitches?
however, i thought we were all luvvie and mates for 2017, not all this frostiness....and its only the 6th Jan.....

BB, if it came across that way then I'm sorry. It takes a great man to admit he has made a mistake! Actually true its one of my top three character traits that I like about people.
BTW £4.90 for a service pitch is too much even for me!

no worries, Corners, i had totally forgotten that Chatsworth has its own way of doing things, in pretty well every respect.....obviously including the SP format.....and the charge....we will visit one day, im sure...
however, both the £4.90 and £3.90 (elsewhere) charges are not even on our radar, as we have enough capacity for fresh/waste warer for 4-5 days including showers.....just isnt something we consider.
i can see the advantages for some....low capacity caravans, folk who cant/dont like all the regular water moving....but (going back to the price theme) i do think that almost a fiver a day (£70 for a fortnights stay) is a charge too high....
anyway, have a good day....

I asked a question via chat on the website about pricing - I asked if there was a calendar showing when it was peak/low/medium or whatever season. The answer was no, and that different sites might have different pricing to reflect popularity. Clear as mud! Small places like heritage railways can produce calendars that are colour coded but seemingly not a big organisation like the CC.

IMHO It is within one’s control to choose whatever company/club etc. to book with for the time when one is able to go away. Whereas pricing structure within CC is not within one’s control therefore like everything else in life it’s down to personal choice.

I very rarely bother with the pricing information. I just put in the dated I want and decide on the answer if I want to book. It makes no difference just how many variations there are although I might sometimes look at the pricing if I have a choice of sites. There are better things to do in life than count the different pricing periods.
5 -
The only time I look at the price is when I do a provisional booking , I know where I want to visit and look for sites that are in the area, I then find a site that would suit ,book the dates and it gives me the price , I then ask my self "is that acceptable " ? , and in most cases it's yes ..
2 -
Whether the price is acceptable boils down in many cases to the number of nights you are paying 'over the odds'
If you are working this may be 10 nights but if you are retired this could be 120 nights - a huge difference
2 -
Indeed........and we old fogies have almost no chance to increase our income, unlike those who may be able to do some overtime.
Plus, if we then use some of our savings to supplement our income (most youngsters seem to believe we have many thousands in savings) then we further reduce the very meagre amount of interest we can earn.
When you are retired, there are 2 pots IMO, a capital one for things like a new car/caravan/MH/boiler/kitchen/bathroom/etc, and one for every day living and holidays.
2 -
Sorry (and KjelINN) paying over the odds implies you are paying more than your should, or are being cheated in some way. This is not the case at all. The cost to stay x nights over y dates is whatever it is. If that isn't in your price bracket for whatever reason then you don't go. Sadly the club is not a charity.
5 -
Geez, common sense if I thought the asking prices were too high-I'd not pay them. I wouldn't pay them-admit I paid them then complain, that certainly ain't common sense
3 -
No, we do not pay the price if we think it too high. The point is that it is sad that many members are finding the CC prices far too high.
It is after all a members' club. Should most members not be able to afford the prices?
I have what I consider to be a reasonable pension, though it sounds like it is not so compared to what some members have....
Are you still working Corners?
Then you can afford far more than we can.
1 -
We all have to live within our incomes and tailor our expenditure accordingly. I certainly don't begrudge others what they have and neither do I expect the Club or any other organisation to adjust its pricing structure to suit me. It is what it is and there are always alternatives.
3 -
I have given up regular employment and just do odd jobs for Liz now.
It is a club but that doesn't mean there are no prices or prices are should be cheap. I'd like to join the Athernaeum club, or the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club but I don't expect them to lower their prices just for me. Most football clubs are quite expensive to watch.
There may well become a time when I can't afford to go to club sites, I certainly won't expect them to lower their prices because I've been a member for so many years
1 -
then sadly they will have to stop being members.
I know, I know... are there no workhouses?
