I currently have a 2 berth Swift Conqueror and plan to tow it with a 1.6L Qashqai . I am tempted to change the car to a Volvo XC 60 for a better match. Has anyone had experience with either car or even both? Thank you

Barry

I have a Volvo XC60 and Caravan is a 1370 kg Lunar and have to say it is the best tow car I have had so far. Not towed with a Qashqai so cant comment on them.

We have the 205 PS D5 AWD XC60. It has the Automatic gearbox

We tow a Bailey Unicorn Cadiz 1500kg MTPLM

More than enough power, plenty of torque and very stable.

Quite simply, the best towcar we have ever had.

Its not the cheapest or most economical car to run however, I guess that's the trade off....

I had a 205ps XC60 until recently, it towed very well indeed once I had ditched the factory fit Pirelli tyres for Nokians (a Finnish brand).

I found the Pirellis to suffer from soft sidewalls which gave a slightly uneven ride in pitch when towing, others on here have had the same issues.

Ultimately I found the XC60 to be average at all other aspects apart from towing, economy is pretty poor, build quality was iffy and I didn`t feel any loss when it went.

Well come on guys could do with some more positive comments as I have just decided to go for the the XC60 FWD 190bhp D4 Geartronic as my next company motor to tow our Swift at 1435mptlm!

Hope it doesn't prove to be the wrong choice - although I mustn't forget that the mileage done with the caravan hitched is a very small percentage when set against the 40k a year it will be doing mainly for work.

Riggers I have the 190bhp D4 manual and am getting approx. 55mpg solo and between 30 and 35 mpg towing a 1370 Kg Lunar and as said above excellent tow car imo

Just traded in my 2014 XC60 D5 Auto.  Covered 42000 miles, about 5000 towing mostly a 2014 Swift Challenger 570SE at 1500Kg and a couple of trips with a 2017 Swift Conqueror 480 at 1450 Kg. Absolutely no issues towing with either 'van.  Fuel economy wasn't that good solo but dipped very little with the 'van on tow. Reliability was perfect.  Now have a V60 Cross Country D4 AWD Auto.  Bought both using the CC deal.

I have the V90 D4 MY2017 and it has 400nm of torque and 190 bhp. I have not towed with it yet but there is more than enough power to tow a 1500kgs caravan. My last XC70 was the D5 215 and that had 440 nm of torque so very little difference between the 2 and I towed 1800kgs with the XC without a problem. The mpg is very good solo at over 50mpg with the cruise set to 70mph. My engine is the same as 'IainM70' and you can get this same engine in the XC60 as well.

I have a XC60 geartronic AWD, towing an Elddis Affinity 540. No stability issues even in strong crosswinds, fuel consumption solo about 38, towing 24. Tyres are Pirelli P Zero and I don't seem to have stability or pitching issues. I got the 5 service for £500 deal which after two services still has not cost anything extra.

My previous manual front wheel drive XC60 D3 was about 2 - 3 mpg bettter.

i have friends with Freelanders and Soentos both seem to have very similar economy.

XC60 will be fine towing your caravan, I remember years ago reading a tow test of one, it beat the BMW X3 which is another fine towcar.

The 2L has plenty of power and torque, so will not be a problem towing your caravan.

I test drove one in 2013 as I like the shape, but didn't buy one as it didn't tick enough boxes for me, same for the X3 I tested at the time.

New XC-60 due this year, but more than likely will have the same 2L engine.

The new XC60 is due to be unveiled at the Geneva Motorshow tomorrow.  As I'll be in the market for a new car this time next year I'll be interested to see what it's like.

I think the XC60 is one nice looking SUV. As a previous Volvo owner i have no doubt that it is a very comfortable car too. I would go back to the brand - however the XC60 is too heavy a car for my licence ...
