Manufacturers quoted towing weights!
Hello all
I have noticed that the hyundai santa fe quoted max towing weights have the comment in very small print stating that this is only applicable when the vehicle is at full laden weight and if less to contact the dealer!!! I assume a sliding scale exists somewhere, anybody explored this further?
Happy New Year to all

Normally, when there are restrictions on towing weight, such restrictions apply when the towing vehicle is fully laden, not the other way round, which is what you describe. This can occur when the sum of the towing weight and the GVW of the car is greater than the maximum permissible gross train weight. As the latter is an absolute limit it means that there must be a trade-off between the overall weight of the laden car and the towed weight. Are you sure that is not the case with your car?

Hi Lutz
I am in agreement with your comments and have seen limitation statements this way round, however the hyundai brochure and website have me baffled. Please take a look at the santa fe towing limits on thier website and see if you read the same as me...
I have ordered an auto with 2000kg max braked towing limit but then noted the foot note about this only applies to a fully laden vehicle....very strang.
Cheers

As the brochure doesn't give details of the maximum permissible gross train weight, I would understand the footnote in the brochure to read that the max. towloads would always be the difference between the max. gross train weight and the actual weight of the towcar, not its GVW.
"Applies to fully laden vehicle. For driver only weight please consult your Hyundai dealer." doesn't necessarily mean that the actual limits are lower than the published figures. They could just as well be higher when the car is not fully laden and that would make sense.

I guess need to see a VIN plate at a local dealer to put my mind at rest.
Our current 2011 SF manual tows our Elddis crusader very well so the new model has a lot to live upto.
Dwlgll20, you can get good discounts through the Hyundai affinity scheme if you work or are related to anyone on the list of approved companies, its worth checking out as I got over 6k of a Premium 5 seat auto.
Cheers all
