Turn again!

I was waiting at a roundabout the other day when (I think) a Nissan Juke approached from my right, so I waited for him. His left-hand fog lamp came on as he entered the roundabout, then it went off and his right-hand fog came on as he went around, then the left one came on again as he made his exit. All this just to go straight ahead? Confusing! How long before some impatient motorist assumes he's turning left and BANG!  It would seem new cars have their fog/spot lamps wired to the steering. I thought it was illegal to have only one white light displayed because oncoming drivers might think you're a motorcycle?  I can only see this ending in tears. I'm sure some drivers already think "mirror/signal/manoeuvre" changed years ago to "mirror (maybe) then signal as you turn. If this daft trend catches on it's only a matter of time before some drivers won't bother to signal at all.

On our Kia we have seperate turn lights that only iluminate when the indicators are used ,i think that is the same on the car you saw i know VWs have the same they are not "fog lights"so the indicators would also be flashing, worse is those those that do not indicate when turning right at round abouts

Don't which is worse.  People that expect you to read minds (ie, which turn they are going to use and not using indicators), or the other extreme, the car telling people in front/behind which way it is going and signalling.

Can imagine what will happen when towing a long trailer, and you pull wide to turn left, so the indicator blink turns right (thinking that's the way the driver wants to go), then the indicator blink switches to leftundecided.  Definitely a crash waiting to happen

Yes i noticed this on my Passat not long after we got it.If i turn the steering wheel a certain distance it lights up the road in the direction i am going but i,m not sure which light comes on.Now i always thought it was a bulb within the headlight unit that was lighting up and not the fog light.I do agree with the OP about these lights being confuseing at times though.

At a roundabout, presuming two lanes on, around and possibly off, it is your positioning that should tell others whether you are turning left, in which case signal, going straight on - in which case don't signal until you have passed the left turn you don't want or going right in which case signal right turn until passing the last left before your left turn and then re signal.

    Simples!

Drivers in Spain take a weird line at roundabouts too.
