Our Almost Free Holiday

We are having our first ever winter caravan holiday after arriving at Cirencester Park this lunchtime.  It's quite surprising how busy the site is and I think we were 1 of 5 arriving when we did.

Whats even better is our 5 night break is being pretty much almost paid completely with thanks to the club.  There was a Facebook competition to win site night vouchers earlier in the year and between us we won 2 pairs.

So thank you to the club!

We've done as much as we can, it's blooming cold that's for sure.  When we arrived inside the caravan was 0.5 degrees.  It took just under 2 hours to get up to 18 degrees but it's now nice and toasty.

The Aquaroll is wearing it's jacket, there are quite a few people who haven't so not sure if we've gone a bit OTT.

It's really lovely to see so many caravans decorated for Christmas,  I guess quite a few have been here for Christmas.

Well, not much chance of us winning anything on Facebook......never go near it.

But enjoy your holiday! I love it when it's cold out (and therefore quiet) and we crank up the heating and feel snug as a couple of bugs.

I would recommend bringing in the blue water hose and pump / filter overnight. The water in the barrel might form an icy layer on top, but it's the pipe that freezes.

Also open the under-bed cupboard fronts overnight if it's really cold, to stop the water pipework freezing.

Enjoy yourself in that lovely area smile

Don't be worried about being OTT, better that way than having a frozen Aquaroll. I'd suggest taking your pump out overnight, and keeping a container of water in the van for the morning.

What sort of temperatures would we start to encounter problems at.  The local forecast is suggesting it will be around 0 degrees overnight.

We've got the Alde Heating set at 18 degrees and we are running on electric only.  We had it on Gas/Elec to get it up to temperature as it was about 0.5 degree when we arrived on site.

Pipe's in, sorry I was meaning what sort of temps will we encounter problems such as freezing loo's and internal pipes.

Only thing I've not protected is the waste water container.

You shouldn't worry about internal pipes if you've a newish van. Temperatures that we are likely to experience at the moment should not cause any internal problems. What I'd do is empty the waste water container before going to bed and use a bucket to collect any waste water that you might use during the night.

Yes it's a modern one, we've got one of these new Swift/Sterling no wood things with wet central heating.  I think all pipework runs inside the caravan/

You could set the temperature on your alde heating to maintain a reasonable temperature, say 10C, if you don't mind it switching on and off during the night. We prefer to sleep in a cool van so I switch the heating on about 6:00 so as the van is warm for getting up later & the water is hot for OH's shower.

Well we survived, at  8.30am it was -2.5 outside.  The aquaroll hasn't frozen and neither has the waste.

We do have problems with the water inlet pipe, but that's not to do with the weather.

Congratulations on your good luck but I do not see why those of us who do not use Facebook are prejudiced.

We were at Cirencester first week of December when it got to -7 at night.  Most of the taps froze first thing in the morning but we're soon sorted.  The van was lovely and warm and we had no problems.
