Hi, Twenty five years caravanning followed by twenty two years sailing and back to caravanning, that's us. Last week I sat at my computer from 8:00am trying to get a booking slot, no luck. By the time I got a slot Chatsworth Caravan Club site was full for both the Chatsworth RHS Flower Show and the Chatsworth International Horse Trials. Much has changed for the better over the sailing gap, not sure if I am a fan of this book and cancel system but that's another topic.

With Chatsworth site full over the week end of May 12-14, 2017 we have agreed with Chatsworth to set up and marshal a temporary caravan site inside Chatsworth Park itself. The temporary site will be open from lunch time Thursday to lunch time Monday. Hopefully members who were disappointed and were unable to book on the Club site will join us.

Booking opens very soon and a telephone enquiry number is already available. We would love to welcome members, see you in May?  Just click here.

If you read the link it is a bit more than just parking up your caravan!

I enjoy Horse Trials but that price seems a bit steep.

Some members think the club site prices are over the top already , I would imagine  that any members that desperate wanting to get to Chatsworth for the horse trials , could find other local sites , cl's at a fraction of the cost mentioned here.

Chatsworth certainly knows how to charge , the car parking charges will rocket over the event as well .

Park in Baslow & walk through the park would be a ideal solution  the foot path runs from Baslow near to the Devonshire arms pub , through a kissing gate & passed the CC site wall or catch a bus from Matlock , Bakewell or Chesterfield they all stop off at Chatsworth itself or nearby.

Ah! Interesting. I better set out what you get and then of course members can make up their own minds. We agreed to create a pop-up site for members and non-members as Chatsworth CC site is full. You get four nights in Chatsworth Park (approx. £100 for two people on the Club Site) and two three day members' tickets for the Horse Trials (£66 each * 2). So if you like International Three Day eventing, X country, horse jumping, dressage, loads of stalls and side shows and a long week end in the Park then £180 seems reasonable. You get access to the members' tent and super seating for the event.  £70 for EHU, can't see that being popular! Most of the Park will be 'closed' that week end (you can still visit the House and Gardens) with places to buy tickets at the entry from Baslow and at the gate into the Park from the Club Site. And in 2016 the queues to get out of the car parks were up to 4 hours. So we will sit by our caravan with friends, G&T, enjoy all three days of the trials and leave after the rush on Monday. My intention was to give members who would like to come along a chance before general booking was open. All, have a good Christmas, we will be in the Brecon Beacons in the van at New Year, Club site of course!

And should add, those costs are set by Chatsworth, the marshals are all volunteering their time.

    Hello Geoff

Nothing to do with this thread but very curious of your surname.  My maiden name was Cutts.  Just wondering if we could have been related somewhere down the line!  Can give you more info.

Surely this pop up site was not set up just in response to the CC site being full, if so you have done it remarkably quickly, I thought Chatsworth always had their own site in addition to the CC

Chatsworth did operate a very poorly run site IMHO used by contractors, exhibitors, visitors and owners. A group of members agreed to run a separate site just for visitors and horse owners knowing the CC site would be very quickly full. Chatsworth will still run a facility for contractors etc. We are in the Park about 100 metres from the Golden Gates. My post was to try and give disappointed members a heads up before general booking. It will be more rally style, portaloos, showers and an expensive generator. Hope this explains.

You give the impression from the Op that this was only set up after the booking day, is this a little misleading when it appears it must have set up some months before ?

I think it is a reasonable price.

The 3 day tickets alone are £66 each.

Yes I think it does matter, it's a commercially run operation in competition with the caravan club, I think if someone is going to sell a product in this site then its integrity is important.

David, it is hardly in competition with Club Site. That is full, booked solid, so gold star for enterprising, equestrian loving members who have got together and solved a problem for themselves. I suspect the terms and conditions of booking the Club Site and the pop up site will be very different as well. Members can choose which they prefer. Enterprise and initiative, long may they flourish.laughing

Thank you for the positive posts. It's football today then get the van ready and off to Tredegar. And, yes, the booking conditions are very different. If you book the temporary site via the Chatsworth House website it is cash with booking and a fixed amount for the pitch whether you stay one or four days. It is for those caravaners who want to come before the rush, leave after the rush and enjoy three days of competition, shops, demonstrations etc. with two members' tickets giving access to the members' marquee etc. This is very different to Caravan Club rules which IMHO are far too generous allowing booking and cancellation without even the smallest penalty.  I would take a bet now that quite a few of the Club site bookings for the Horse Trials week end will be cancelled, equally sure every pitch will be rebooked by members who know to just keep checking. That is just how we booked Tredegar over New Year. Have. good one.
