We are booked in at the Edinburgh club site over the New Year we are planning to go into Edinbrugh for New Year's Eve celebrations. We would like to here from anybody who has been in the past as to what to expect or any advice. We are not young ravers we are both around 60 but we still enjoy a good night out and want to get involved. I was looking at tickets for the street party which are £25 each are they worth buying. Looking forward to your replies.

It might be a good idea to ring the site up, I don't know whether they might be advising about transport into the town. It will be very busy and noisy, hang on to your hat and enjoy it!

I live in Edinburgh and suggest the Street Party tickets are a must. Most, if not all of the city centre is closed off and access is only permitted with ticket. Most places outwith the centre will be ticketed events and probably sold out by now anyway. You are travelling all the way so enjoy the spectacular sight of the fireworks at the castle with people of all ages and nationalities.

    Happy Hogmanay

I agree with Stewart - You will need to pay to take part in the street party and other celebrations. There is a huge demand for tickets which are limited for safety reasons.

We live 30 minutes from Edinburgh by train and would never dream of taking the car into the city centre at Hogmanay.   Public transport is strongly advised.

    Cheers..................... K

Thanks for the info. I have been online and purchased tickets for the street party. I wasn't thinking of going in by car we want to enjoy a few drams while we are there. Will there be public transport running New Year's Eve we need to get from the club site and back. If not are there normally any problems getting a taxi.

Look at this web site Edinburgh Hogmanay travel (how to get there and how to get back sections.)

The CC site at Edinburgh offer a minibus to and from the centre of Edinburgh.   We haven't used it as we didn't go into the centre for the bells, but watched from outside.

However, I can recommend the service bus into Edinburgh which is a good service and a great way to see some of the sights.   It's a short walk to the bus stop from the site and a reasonable cost (for anyone not an OAP which a pass).

Thanks for the info. We arrive at the site on the 27th so plenty of time to check out the public transport when we get there. Looking forward to seeing the sites and checking out some of Edinburgh's watering holes.
