Festival of Light
I expect some of you will be heading for the CC Longleat site over the festive season. It's well worth seeing the annual Festival of Light. This year we joined our son and family for an evening visit to Longleat. They had a season ticket this year as they live nearby and we bought twilight tickets. This gave us entry from 3.30pm, the lights switched on around 4pm. We got there early enough to see the small animal section, a couple of Porcupines were having their supper and the Meerkats were getting ready for bed.
After that we met our family by the large lion statue outside the house and watched the lights come on (these lanterns are made by a Chinese display company.) then we went inside to see the Edwardian Christmas displays complete with actors dressed for the part. In the main hall the costumes from the Royal Ballet "Tales from Beatrix Potter" were on display and some of her precious first edition books were on show too.
Our son, daughter in law and grandson went off for a trip on the Santa Express, they vanished for nearly an hour so we went into one of the cafes for a coffee and cake. We got together for another walk around. The lights were very attractive and we had a good evening out at Longleat.

They must change the designs each year, we went last year and thought it was great. Very easy to get to from the campsite.

This year there were two themes going, Longleat's 50th anniversary (party theme and animals) and Beatrix Potter. The lanterns in the Beatrix Potter area were beautiful, Mr McGregor's garden and Peter rabbit etc. I'll see if I can do a link to Longleat.
edit That's good it's working, I was unable to do links on stories previously.

Nice story Brue, sounds like a wonderful event, it's a shame Longleat isn't as dog friendly as it used to be, as I would love to see the festival.

We took our Grandson (7) last weekend, armed with Granddad's spare digital camera he had a great time.
Campsite first class. Longleat enjoyed the lights but too many people for me.

We also took our grandchildren this week. Loved the lights but it was very busy for young ones. Stayed at campsite was very impressed, first time on cc site if all sites like this will be very happy. Also impressed with how many motorhomes & caravans had bothered to put up Xmas lights. Youngsters were very impressed.
wishing everyone happy Xmas & new year

Tambo, you will find CC sites pretty consistent. There are good and bad but generally they are well maintained and clean with good facilities... We've stayed at the CC site many times, and went to the Festival of Light a couple of years ago and I thought it was first class... the kids loved it.
