What if....

The caravan club has strict pitch layout procedures, car, caravan, awning, with the caravan to the right of the marker.  What if you have a European caravan which ideally needs to be awning, caravan, car, unless you put it on the pitch hitch first.  Is this allowed?

Yes it is allowed but a strict aspect of pitching is having the corner of your cvan/MH to the peg. However, this can be either the offside rear corner or the nearside front corner.

This is designed to maintain spacing of 6m between facing walls of cvans/MHs and 3m between cars/awnings.

    Hope that helps.

When you arrive on site, you are given a site plan and this includes a very clear diagram showing, as you say, car / caravan / awning. This diagram is also available on the site details on the CC web site.

As you say, if you have the caravan door on the 'continental' side and wish to use an awning, you would need to pitch the caravan nose in.

You can park caravan nose in or out and fit awninfg on door side and park car other side. Take no notice of Ian as he does not like the prospect of a neigh ouring caravans door or awning facing his door. Shame reallysmile

    How rude!

I am just saying what the instructions on the web site and on the site leafle say. Nowhere does it say that you can pitch otherwise.

The shame is when people give out advice based on what they would like the rules to allow, rather than what they actually say.

We have been given the advice on this site as I am sure that you are well aware. As you feel that I am being rude I shall report my post to save you the effort Ian

    Let's be clear -

The quote below is from an email I have from CC staff member Rosie Eaton:

...I can confirm that on directly owned Caravan Club Sites the ruling accepts outfits either being pitched nose in or reversed on as long as the safety spacing requirement is adhered to...

I think Jill's post says it all. It is after all the official club statement. I can't say I remember this ever being a problem on site. I suppose there must have been some occasions when we've had a continental van/MH next to us so doors/awnings facing each other, but to be honest we don't spend enough time on site (an never sit in what is only a porch awning) for it to be an issue. smile

I thought we all knew that we can pitch either way round on 99% of club sites

but the OP also raises the issue of not knowing if the OP is a new member ,as there is now no way of knowing

The only time Ian would be sort of correct, is on sites like Cirencester. Where on a lot of the awning pitches the car goes in front of the van. On these pitches the peg is at the left hand corner, so the only way to put an awning up with a continental van is to go in nose first. Otherwise you would be erecting the awning on the grass divide.

We have a Continental caravan  tongue-outtongue-out. Not had any pitching issues thus far.

Surely Ian has as much right to his opinion as you have.

In my opinion  your post appears disrespectful to a fellow forum member.

    Cheers...............K

    Thanks Jill.

Yes, that is exactly right. You can pitch whichever way round you like.

Of course, if you have a continental caravan and you wish to put up an awning, then you will need to go nose in, in order to put the caravan door on the correct side for the awning.

Unless of course you want to put the awning on the non door side.

As I said, the leaflet the CC give you when you arrive on site (and which is included on the CC web site) is very clear - you must pitch car / caravan / awning.....in that order.

And you have a right to your opinion whether it be right or wrong.
