Redstricted access for joint members
I know this has been discussed a long time ago (well over a year ago) but don't have time to search all past posts to find it.
Reading a thread a few minutes ago I wanted to check up on a CL but to do so had to sign out and then sign in again as our membership is in my wife's name so I cannot see CL details when signed in as myself. I then had to sign out/in again to comment on
the thread.
I was certain that the CC had pledged to remove this silly restriction when it was discussed previously but obviously that hasn't happened yet. Is it just another example of the software employed by the CC not being fit for purpose and still not being replaced
after all this time or something permanent?

The CC response in March re this problem was the following:
Good afternoon Mayesderek.
I am sorry to hear you are having a problem, it is all down to the email address that you have registered against your membership number , we can only register one email on your membership details, feel free to call anytime and change the email address
on the membership records, once we have changed, you can they re register the new email.Kind regards

The sort of total cop-out I have come to expect of the CC. I had hoped that when I came back to this forum recently I should find that the faults which drove me away had been fixed. I suppose I should not be surprised really.

To be frank I do not see the problem. If there are two of you share an e mail address and password.
That might suit some people but I would expect it is a minority which has been becoming smaller for several years. Many families these days have multiple Internet connected devices which they use simultaneously.

So where is the problem in obtaining a new e-mail address that you both share and is used to log into the CC forum? Both of you and also any other family members who need to be involved in caravaning. You can register that email address with C&CC as well,
and any other site you want. All these "multiple internet connected devices" you mention allow for combining emails into a single box. Set up properly you will not even see a join.

It's over 40 years since I sent my first e-mail so I do understand the mechanisms
Indeed, I already have three e-mail addresses as a result of voluntary work I do (my wife has only one). Adding another e-mail address (which
would have no other purpose) just to suit the vagaries of the CC's inadequate computer systems would be too tiresome.0 -
We, the boss (Mrs P) and I have a joint email address that we use for joint things like holidays, CC, Utilities etc. It also serves as a spam filter from out personal accounts.
But then, shock horror, we have a joint bank account too
And if we both wish to make (separate) comments on this forum (as we do on other fora of joint interest) what then?

I am not sure why you had to log in and out of each account. You should be able to log into both accounts simultaneously on the same device. We certainly can both log on at the same time on our single account. If you open a separate browser window and select the CC site, won't it let you log on to another account?
I think I have answered my own question. It only seems possible if you use a different browser.

Weve not had any problems both logging in to the CC website at the same time on different devices in different locations.
I use forums more than she, but I don't do facebook so Mrs P has her own account.

So as my OH is the lead member but doesn't post on the forum nor book any sites, if he changes the email address on his profile to my email address, will I be able to login as the lead member ? Or will the system only recognise one email address per registered
member ? Would that work ?0 -

I'm not sure I understand that. Are you saying that two people can log on, using different devices, at the same time using the same e-mail address? Seems strange.
Even so, that does not overcome the problem of two people posting to the forum in their own names. With a single login one couldn't tell who had posted which comment.

This is the same situation as ours. But I really don't want to post on CT in my husband's name, and I'm sure he doesn't want me to either! He never uses the CT forum. To use the forum, I've simply registered as a non member. The only difference is it doesn't
state "member" on my profile photo, not bothered one bit about that.0 -

My OH is the lead member so bookings have to be done on his log in (I do them) but I registered as a member (joint member) when signing up for CT, I'm sure it comes up on my avatar as member.
Edit: yes it does

Unless they put their name (or Forum pseudo-name) on the post as some people do.

Yes, that would work. However, my background in IT development tells me that software should be fit for purpose, not require users to find workarounds for simple tasks which the software should take care of

Yes that's what we do.
I hope the security surrounding transactional processing like bookings is rather better than much of the software then

You can both post on here in your own name but only one as a member. Not sure what secrets you have that means you canmot share a password for an e mail address for bookings and the like.
It's nothing to do with secrets (we both know each others e-mail details) but about having software that is fit for purpose.

Sorry but the system works and I do not see the problem. It is simply not worth spending more on the system to get that done , we do not need perfection just a working system.

Judging by the number of threads/posts about problems with the CC software I'm not sure that it can be said that the system works
We have been told many times in staff posts that new systems are to be implemented. Whilst making changes to an existing system might be costly, designing in features from the start attracts nothing like the same level of costs.
In my naivety I thought that those new systems might be in place when I returned to this forum after more than a year of leaving it through frustration with the software

I am not computer savy but just want this to work simply and easily. I have never had any problem working with he site but appreciate that it could do more but do not see what it would achieve.
Before I retired we worked with systems that did everything concievable because everything was offered to us. Having got it we discovered that there was far too much for us to actually have time to use so it was far more expensive than we needed and what was required was simpler and cheaper. My feeling is this is probably the same. Yes it could do a lot more but do we actualy need it.

Hi all,
Sorry for your shared frustrations but as noted already the registration process works on 1 email and password covering a Membership. Anyone can use those details to access the membership (if details shared, of course) but it will be under the "lead" member's
name. All bookings, quotes, amendments etc. made online are for the Membership not the individual. We changed this set up as when different emails were linked to a Membership we found lead and joint members making amendments to their bookings/ profile simultaneously
causing all manner of issues.A joint member can register a second email address for the purpose of browsing and posting on Club Together in their own right.
You can speak to our Web Team at any time if the set up on your profile is incorrect or needs changing. We'd be happy to help.
And finally from me in response to mhparking we are still awaiting the release of our new improved website.. hopefully in the coming weeks... watch this space!
Kind regards,
Helen
