Swift / Sterling cushions

I have a brand new 2016 Sterling Eccles 640 which is twin lounge, no fixed bed, which is ideal for us. The cushions are the most uncomfortable, poor quality  things I have ever slept on, or not slept on as the case is. They have been returned to Swift once
already but after only 6 nights the replacements are already out of shape. I am 15 stone and my partner is only 9.5 stone but we are both having major problems sleeping. It is impossible to turn over without waking up as you end up in a hole especially around
the pelvis area.

I have asked Swift to speak to me but they won't and they are not interested in inspecting the cushions again. Swift also say that they have a firmer foam but that we will have to pay extra for this. OUTRAGEOUS!!!  After only 6 nights they are so out of
shape that you cannot open the drawers between the beds. I consider the cushions and therefore my £20k+ caravan not fit for purpose.

Any advice or similar stories appreciated please.

Also please advise if this is posted in the corrrect area.

Thanks

We had a similar problem with our 2015 Bailey Barcelona and according to the upholsterer I paid to re-fill the cushions with better quality foam, it's a fairly common problem with new caravans of various makes.  I think it's a weight saving issue as well as a cost issue. If yours is like ours, I think you will find that the foam is a sort of honeycomb construction. which is quite light - unlike our new replacements.

I could have gone down the road of getting into a protracted warranty 'discussion' with Baileys - and the dealer was quite happy to go down this path, but the chances were that it would take weeks to resolve and the replacements would probably be no different from the originals.  I considered life too short and the fact that we use the van extensively, all year round, persuaded me that to shell out £250 to get the matter resolved in a little over 24 hrs was well worth it.

That said, I have noticed that the 2017 Baileys appear to have firmer seat cushions, so perhaps I was a bit hasty and perhaps there had been so many complaints that they have had to do something about it.

There is another thread on here, somewhere, about this issue, but I can't find it.

this will always be a compromise situation, providing a single cushion type that has to provide firm support for sitting on and yet not feel too much like a board when sleeping on.

i guess manugacturers try and get this situation as right as they can, but it will never be perfect.

they could produce cushions that feel great when sleeping on them but are a pig to sit in.

for those who want/need a dual purpose area (sit/sleep) im not sure whatnthe answer is.....manufacturers unhelpfulness doesnt help the customer much.

not sure where you go with this.....good luck.

When we had caravans that we had to make up the front cushions to sleep on they were Spring interior cushions overlayed with foam, so while giving support for sitting on they were also fine for sleeping on, one of them was a little firm for me so I had a
memory foam topper to give me a better sleep. The motorhome we have now also has spring interior cushions overlayed with foam, we had the knee roll removed from the cushions and they are now perfect for us.

My dealer owns the same van as you and has commented it is the most comfortable caravan bed he has slept on .... and he has owned a fair few 'vans!

We use the front seating of our Lunar as two singles. It is superbly comfortable with its spring seating and a major consideration when we purchased

I suppose you need to go back to your dealer. I had a problem on a previous van and the dealer said that as the caravan was more than 12 months old Swift were not interested.

I told the dealer 'not my problem or Swifts ...... you the dealer's problem'. If not happy with response did you use acredit card for part of purchase or did you use finance?'

Yes part of it on credit card. Always do for the protection you get. Still waiting for response from Swift regarding cost.  Cheers
