New website does not compute!

I have not been that impressed by the "new improved" website so, just for fun, I tried the Route Planner section to a club site - Marazion in Cornwall - that I know well and know that its approach is not that easy.

For some reason the directions on the Route Planner are totally different at the crucial end stage then those as described on the site page under the UK holidays tab. The approach is from the opposite direction and IMHO on an unsuitable road for a larger unit.

Could someone at the CC explain please?

Route planners / sat navs should never be used for the final approach, without vetting first, as they are unreliable. The CC is not responsible for the route planning site and it is really provided as a guide, not be followed religiously.

I got thrown out the site but was also going to put, it depends how you set the planner up, shortest or quickest. Although I use both route planners and sat navs, I always review the routes to check I am happy with where it is taking me. If the end part does not follow the CC directions, and cannot be forced with waypoints to do so, then I revert to tried and tested maps and written directions.

I would certainly not disagree with the disclaimer but it does beg the question as to why the route planner is there if it can't be relied upon because some people would follow it religiously regardless of where it takes them (as has been shown many times in the past with drivers getting into trouble of varying degrees).

Personally I regularly ignore the sat nav when towing but you would hope that if the club is offering a route it is at least accurate.

However the point of my post was not the suitability of the route but the conflicting "advice" in different parts of the website.

The route planner is not specifically designed for CC or caravans and was the same on the old website. That's why we are always advised to follow the directions in the handbook/website.

I have been driving  for well over 50 years never had a satnav and never want one.

Use a map they are far more reliable. I've never been lost.

I think the point was.......why put tbe route planner there, if it cannot be relied upon?

Why not add a route planner that IS specifically designed for caravan navigation? Or is there a fear that litigation could follow if ever there was an error in the information provided? The current route planner is a waste of time and can be misleading given its place on the site.

Does such a thing as a caravan route planner exist?

It must do , there are plenty advertised on the club magazine. IF there were none then the "club" should create one for the benefit of its members
