Does anybody buy a printed newspaper nowadays.

While my wife was supermarket shopping today I strolled over to the news stands.  As I was having a look at what was on offer, I was surprised at how many people were standing there reading the newspapers. I never buy printed newspapers as they are telling yesterday's news,----But I did notice however that of all the titles, the Daily Mail were the only ones being taken to the cash desk and paid for.. So I had a quick read at the Mail myself and was impressed by their sense of propriety and the evenhandedness of their investigative reporting.  I can see why the Daily Mail is the country's most popular newspaper among the intelligent honest British people. 

P.S. I still didnt buy it. Wink

    We get a Sunday paper (Sunday Times) free when we shop at Booths (obviously only on a Sunday). I know the news is not as up to date at the Internet, but I read it over several days then us it to light the fire. Multi purpose.

    And we buy two farming weeklies.

    Weve not bought a newspaper for well over 30 years, even then it was only the local rag.. now defunct.

    We have the Times, Monday to Friday and the Mail on Saturday because it has the best TV supplement.  Don't bother on Sunday, the Sunday Times is just too big and the Mail on Sunday rubbish!

    Buy The Times on Saturday and OH occasionally treats herself to The Mail. As if I'm not enough! Makes me feel a bit insecure. wink

    For many years my parents only ever bought a newspaper on a Sunday.

    This was because it provided enough paper to light the fire for the rest of the week! It was my job to separate the pages and then roll them up and knot them ready for use.

    I only read the paper occasionally but my wife gets very anxious without her daily fix and this includes on holiday but she can be calmed slightly if an online version is available.

    I read the Times in the dentist this morning. I read the DM at the hairdressers every now and then (the only place for it laughing.) The i is the only paper I buy frequently, every Saturday and when on holiday. I also like local papers so will also buy them when staying in different places. I like newspapers but I don't like the bias a few attempt to inflict on some gullible readers.

    Usually get my free Guardian when we go shopping in Waitrose and will sometimes buy a copy if I think I have enough time to read it in depth. The weekend versions take days to read!!!

    I gave up buying newspapers a very long time ago. (except the financial times hubby has once a week)  The only thing I now find the online newspapers are similar , but if you quote one on here or even mention a news article ,your blasted and told nothing is true and they only print trash.  So why do we bother in print or online undecided

    Mrs H buys the DM every day. Wouldn't bother myself.

    I did notice that the editorial of the Mail on Sunday is very different to the Mail........especially when it came to a certain vote.

    I  get  the Saturday &  Sunday  Mail,   ---    purely  for  the  TV  timings 

    &  the  Puzzle  pages  of  course  wink   !

    But  If  one  is  on  one of  those  sites  where  papers  are  available to  order,  it  might  surprise  some  folks  to  see  which  papers  are  ordered  and  how  many  of  each  !!

    ps I buy the i every day, enjoy the Cryptic crossword and it's quite good in evaluating the main topics in a fair and balanced way, for example they gave the facts out on Brexit and didn't try to influence your decision one way or other. Their Sports pages are pretty rubbish though compared to others (mainly read admittedly whilst at the dentists)

    Forgot to mention but I do find the Mail to be a rag of the lowest order. Politeness prevents me from venting my spleen.

    When away in the caravan we buy the Mail. Not on a Sunday as too much trash included. 

    I rarely read more than a page or two. We buy it for the crossword. laughing

    Occasionally buy one - don't read it all.  Main purpose as a protection for surfaces when painting etc.  Keep up to date online.

    I buy the Times during the week but don't buy any paper at the weekend there's too much that I wouldn't get round to reading. The football section on Mondays is a good read even if it's dominated by the Premier League.

    I buy the Guardian on a Saturday and that lasts me all week, used to work for the DM and wouldn't waste my time on that piece of lying rag. Certainly on a downward spiral since Dacre took over, on the same base level as the Sun now.

    Ken, why would I? Fake news and garbage! I'm not pointing at any particular paper here - I have learnt that if you want the truth the web is the far better place to go but you have to search. Infowars, prison planet etc. Not to be political, I see that the mainstream media are putting out now that Brexit was hacked and swung by......... you've guessed it  - the Russians!!!  GARBAGE!!

    Have not bought a newspaper for many years. Sometimes glance at the headlines of papers going into or out supermarkets. See whatever news there is on BBC1 either am or evening. OH or I will pick up a local weekly free paper. That  is enough to inform me as to what is going on locally & elsewhere.

    We still buy a daily newspaper but not on Sundays as we find they are so expensive for a paper full of advertisements.

    Glad it's not just me who's unimpressed with the Daily Mail...it's full of the same stuff every day!  I find the weekday and Saturday Times to be a fairly good occasional read - particularly when in the caravan.  I do like the tabloid size - a great improvement on the old broadsheets.  Have never really tried the Guardian - might give it a go one of these days.

    We make good use of the free weekend papers from Booths, sometimes splitting the shopping into two amounts, Daily & Sunday Telegraph and or Times and Sunday Times good travel sections & crosswords. I used to get the Independent until it went back on its word not to print royal tittle tattle

    Quite like the 'i' as it is short and concise and gives info across a broad range of topics but would never buy a regular paper these days. Better half buys the Mail on Saturday for the Tv guide.

    I read the Standard Examiner its a good paper to reed www.standard.net its the ogden standard examiner and I reed the Deseretnews
