unfortunately i'm finding the use of green print very difficult to see.  Its so pale its quite a strain, i may have to give up.  Also on the old forum you could click on the last comment made under a topic, it doesn't appear to have that facility now.  It could be quite interesting with some topics going into many pages.

I completely agree, glad it's not just me!  The colours are too pale and very difficult to read, also the font is too small.

What sort of screen / device are you using. Is it possible to play about with the colours and increase the tone.?

Everybody can play about with font and colour and every other setting but why?

All other forums are set up correctly in the first place whereas we are now saddled with a 'The Kings Clothes' forum!

I'm using an ipad but the settings are good for other websites so i don't think i'll fiddle about just for this one.

It was probably designed by someone straight from Uni - with young eyes, and any of us who are over forty know that things get more difficult to read as we get older.  Perhaps we should type everything in bold!  There, isn't that better!

I agree that the new colours make it much harder on the eyes, especially for those of us who's eyesight isn't quite what it used to be. So far I am very unimpressed but should I really be surprised!

Also using an iPad, a fairly old 3 version. However, I am finding  the colours, size font etc fine and I am certainly not straight from uni with young eyes. I would assume as when a bit back they said Apple devices were one of the most used for accessing the site, it would be optimised for those. Just asked OH she is also happy with its visibility. Not checked on my windows PC yet, but I know on some sites colours need adjusting and even angle to the lap top screen can make a big difference.

Quite agree and yes Valda, much easier to see in boldsmile !

Given that the vast majority of CC members are on the top side of 30, easy to view and read should have been a priority, the font should be black in my view.

It's all about contrast to give clarity.  I shall try & remember to type in bold.

We will probably be told that using bold is akin to using CAPITALS and is considered shouting.   Seems quite sensible, actually, as those having these troubles with the lack of contrast would probably like to have the volume turned up a bit.

If you look under your OP (original post at the beginning) you'll see in red "jump to last reply."

I'm only just over 40 and use a laptop, really struggling to read, why couldn't the type have stayed the same as the old forum?

Thanks BB had not noticed that you had to be logged in to get go to last post button. It just seemed to keep disappearing, now I know why.

Basically this website was designed by what we used to describe as 'Puppies' (excited young males (usually) straight out of Uni, waggy tails, eager to please, and full of convincing malecow excrement!)

I think the 'Jump to last reply button' has been added recently as it certainly didn't appear to be there yesterday.  I looked everywhere for it, in fact aside from Brue posting it, I still can't see it.  Is there something wrong with the way it appears in 'Chrome'?

"Jump to last unread reply" would be far more useful. It is already possible to get to the latest post by just clicking the date in the 'latest post' column.

Such a facility does, of course, presuppose that the differentiation between 'read' and 'unread' posts can be achieved - something that is currently lacking. Even refreshing a page does not update whether posts are 'read' or 'unread'. Even the old site managed that properly.

I like the new colour scheme, I find the green highlighting quite restful. Bit confused about the green text. The only things I can see in green text is my user name and when people like a post? Or are people meaning the index when the replies/posters are in green? Neither causes me a problem I have to say.

I think posters are meaning the Main Index Discussions page where there is green on green albeit a different shade, not a problem for me but maybe people with a visual impairment have a problem.

There once was a forum in green.

Who's designers didn't want it seen.

    With fonts set so small

My Optician I gave him a call.

With threads gone missing in space.

It saves on memory and therefore no waste.

I cannot understand the CL page.

It brings up all towns including Swanage

So next time people want a change

Just think next time it could be in beige

I don't have particularly good eye sight (patched up retina, mild cataracts) but I'm finding the print ok. I think it could possibly be tweaked a bit for contrast. I do admit to having good glasses. wink

Sorry web designer, but it's another vote against the wishy-washy green used on the front page and board listings.  Even this grey is pale.  Maybe it looks different on a Mac (or whatever) publishing system?

I find the lack of contrast really causes me eye strain whether I'm using the desktop or tablet.  And I had my eyes tested only a fortnight ago!

This seems to be a growing trend as some of the magazine pages are printed with text that barely contrasts with the background.

I'm all in favour of keeping things fresh and new, but readability is surely a fundamental requirement?

I can only assume there is a difference depending on device. As on my iPad even my 89 year old mum, who has very poor eye site, would be able to distinguish the fonts both green and grey black OK. Yes I would have to enlarge it for her, but that just involves expanding your fingers on a pad or phone.

Apparently the colours looks different with different devices and the settings on those devices.  On my laptop this is in a pale grey and quite small script but on my OH's tablet it appears to be quite a bit darker and also larger and easier to read.

The 'front page' where all the discussions are listed is OK on the posts with the white background, although the title of each section is a bit pale, but on the grey background it becomes more difficult to read in poor light.

One of the fundamental tips for web designers should be to test the readability of their choice of colours, fonts, and text sizes, with a range of devices and a range of viewers of different age groups and fitness levels.

Jake - I totally agree with you and I'm looking at this on a new iMac 27 with a high definition retina screen and the colours are still wishy washy and the black text is definitely grey and not at all easy to read - and I have reasonably good eyesight! What I find frustrating is that when it comes to photos and avatars, they are much improved with clear crisp colours and good definition - so this difficult-to-read text is a deliberate design feature and I just can't understand why.

On Compaq laptop now using google chrome and the colour is now a very acceptable blue on white background.

This is much more acceptable than using my Ipad. Not being a web designer how is this so different on different devices.
