Post It from Camping Les Erables, Millau, Midi-Pyrénées, France 18th September, 2014.
After spending 7 weeks touring Scotland last September we said we wanted to enjoy some sun and warmer weather this Autumn so fancied setting off to spend some time on the Costa Brava in Spain with the intention of only going as far south as absolutely needed to remain happy with the weather. We had not visited this area for some years so were looking forward to the revisit to new places in the motorhome.
After getting over the bad viral attack that I returned home with at the end of June we booked the Eurotunnel crossings and set off from home on September 14th, 2014. Once again I decided not to post stories about sites we had stayed at previously so the early part of the journey via Black Horse Farm, Pont de L’Arche and Nevers gave my fingers and camera a rest. Because we decided to stay at a different campsite in Millau, having read the ACSI reviews, I thought it worthy of a quick note as we quite liked it and thought others may too.
After crossing the Channel the weather picked up and was surprisingly sunny, hot and dry. At Rouen we met campers who were on their way to a Camping & Caravan Club rally at Sant Pere Pescador, but not at the site we planned to visit there. At Nevers we met a second couple also on their way to the same rally and it was their first venture into Spain as well.
The journey from Nevers to Millau was a tiring long day’s drive after encountering road works causing delays and diversions near to Clermont Ferrand followed by an accident on the A75 which closed the motorway. Thankfully it had happened early enough for us to be diverted off the motorway onto local roads by the Police. It made for a very picturesque journey through the land of the volcanoes but a considerable detour in distance and time.
We arrived at Camping Les Erables, later than we have arrived at any campsite previously, to a warm welcome from the owners. The site is relatively small with large separated pitches and a small frontage down onto the River Tarn. There was a café bar selling very cheap wine, spotless facilities and a friendly feel to the place with a small mix of campers from different European countries. There was even free Wi-Fi and I could almost get a good signal on the like my neighbours could. A very well stocked supermarket, with petrol station, was only a stroll over the other side of the Tarn so it was in a good location for those without transport. The town was literally across the bridge from the campsite. We would definitely come back to this site again when stopping in Millau and at only 12€ a night it was a bargain!
I needed a rest from driving and not wanting to arrive on our campsite in Spain just before the weekend we stayed for a couple of nights here before deciding to move on as the rain was coming. As a detour from our earlier intentions we shall now spend a few nights on the French Mediterranean coast near Beziers, we enjoy visiting new places and I am forever grateful that we have the ability and health to do so. Smokee, our house cat, has quickly settled back into touring life and I am convinced he prefers it being away in Bessie than at home. The downside now though is the quantity of food we have to bring with us for him, his appetite has grown since our last journey away and we cannot always get his food in the shops whilst away.
Regards, Roy

Did you visit the gorge? We are looking to stay in Millau in June and want to see and walk in the immediate area, but do not want to drive. Are there local busses do you know.
