We’re here at Cáceres to visit the old walled town, the Cuidad Monumental. This morning we travelled from our campsite by bus (1€ each) into the city. With a little help “ Donde se va a Cuidad?” from a passer-by we found the Plaza Mayor, the Tourist Office (for maps) and, after cup of coffee in the sun, the entrance at the Arco de la Estrella.

We think we saw most of everything we were supposed to see, and we took a few photographs although it’s difficult to frame good photos in such an enclosed space. We finished our visit by climbing up to the top of the Torre de Bujaco to get an overall view. We didn’t see any storks, as billed, as they’ve gone south. We did see an eagle above the campsite just before the afternoon’s thunderstorm arrived.

We’re at Camping Cáceres (16€ ACSI discount) along with lots of happy British campers. (Some of us may not be British by this time tomorrow!). The swimming pool has closed for the season, but the Wi-Fi has just improved and the individual toilet blocks are a treat.

Top Tip: Having heard so many pronunciations of ‘Cáceres’, we asked the ladies at reception and it’s Cath-err-ess.

On to Toledo tomorrow...
