#XploreMore 2014 - Task 96 - Find out about the Scottish Referendum
NB. We thought we had already written this challenge up, but we're not so sure, so we are adding it again.
Quite fitting really, as it's actually the eve of the Scottish Referendum!
On our trip up to Scotland, we decided to complete another one of our 100 challenges - find out about the Scottish referendum, one of the 25 challenges set by some of the Caravan Club members.
For Ella’s 9th Birthday we went to an outdoor activity centre, Rock UK and got to know one of the leaders well. He had studied Politics at University and we soon got sucked into conversation with him. At one point we decided to ask him 3 questions about the referendum. Here’s what he said:
Q1. What is a referendum?
A. Where the public have the overall voice. For example, the Scottish Referendum is where the Scottish citizens get to choose whether Scotland should be an independent country or not.
Q2. What do you think the outcome of the vote will be?
A. That’s a tricky question. It’s a worry that the outcome of the vote will not be accurate to what the country feels. See, most of the people who want Scotland to be independent will turn up for the vote as they are eager to get their point across whereas the ones who don’t want Scotland to be break away from the UK turn out to be not as bothered about it as the ones who do. So it’s just about encouraging the people who don’t want independence to actually vote.
Q3. What do you think about Scotland being independent?
A. I don’t think it would be a good idea as the country may struggle with money and the Universities may have a fee to join them. I’m not that bothered about it though.
