We had visited Shropshire for day trips on a couple of occasions when my parents lived in Gloucestershire in the mid 1970’s.  Been to Ludlow, the SVR and Ironbridge.  Decided as we had a spare week to actually stay in the county.  Booked the Weston Farm CL site which is about 6 miles west of Bridgnorth.

Day 1

Fairly long trip to Gigrin Farm at Rhayader to view the Red Kites.  Our intention was to view the feed then go on to Barmouth.  Feeding is now carried out at 1500hrs hours.  We drove the short distance to the delightful market Town of Llanidloes had a look around and then went on to the reservoir for lunch whilst watching for the Ospreys that had nested in the area.

Back at Gigrin Farm we went to the hides where the Kites were already in evidence.  About half an hour before feeding we counted 40 circling in the area but when the food was distributed we estimate somewhere between 80 and a hundred descended.  Fantastic sight but difficult to photograph

Thank you for the story and great pictures Oneputt, I have Shropshire on my list for next year, and this has given me some ideas for what to do.

Note - Tried to edit the story after I had posted it but no luck. Bridgnorth is on the River Severn not the River Thames.

Enjoyed your story and pics. I think this is the best way to load on to here, the other way is so slow and it's easy to lose the whole lot or not be able to edit on time!
