Back to Gatwick!

Back to the lovely Gatwick Club Site the other week for three nights: my third visit to the site. Now under the supervision of the brilliant Ade and Sue, the site was looking tip-top as usual and I received the same warm welcome as I used to get from their predecessors.

Principally known and used as a storage site, there are a number of spacious and level pitches for the touring caravanner. It is a strange site, in that you really are next to the runway at Gatwick! So- for about 10 seconds every couple of minutes it’s pretty noisy, but when there aren’t planes taking off it’s really quiet. Planes don’t land and take-off all night either, and I’ve found I wasn’t woken up in the early hours. Being a site with a relatively small amount of pitches, you have no problem availing yourself of the facilities: as the shower/toilet block is always close by and generally quiet. It’s a short drive from the site to Gatwick itself, the A23/M23/M25 and so very good for getting out and about. You can be in Brighton in under an hour.

My tip for stocking up: there’s an excellent Waitrose at Horley, barely ten minutes drive away.

I temporarily stored my caravan at the site for 4 days while I was working elsewhere, and Sue and Ade made it very easy for me, especially when I got into difficulties trying to reverse into my allotted space. Ade came straight out to help, and even fixed a bit of the rear bumper that had detached due to my lousy manoeuvring! Many thanks again for the cheery and friendly help Sue and Ade - I look forward to seeing you both again. Meanwhile, I’m thinking it’s time I got myself a motor-mover! Any recommendations? Mine’s a lightweight Bailey Pursuit 430-4!

Hi Oneputt: making a Radio 4 programme at the the moment, part of the "Word Of Mouth" series. On the "double entendre"!
