How much water? An observation about our water usage

Using Water in the Xplore

In a caravan, it's easy to loose track of how much water you're using - with no water bills and just a quick walk to the drinking water tap to fill up the Aquaroll, the amount of water caravanners use is not really given a thought.

When we first stayed at a site for more than two days, the 4th site in our 20 challenge, we started to realise how much water we were using. We were having to fill up the forty litre Aquaroll once each day to have water to use. This was a ridiculous amount of water for a family of four to be using per day so we tried to use less.

Since then, we have used less water. For example, we have stayed at this current site we are at now for about two days and so far not had to fill the Aquaroll up once. But still, from the first experience, we realised how easy it actually is to use huge amounts of water without knowing.

It's easy to take this essential resource for granted when in a bricks and mortar home, despite a huge amount of the global population not having access to fresh, clean water.

Caravanning has made us more water-aware, and this is one of the many positives of caravanning we are experiencing as we travel around in our Elddis Xplore 574.

It is a wake up call for my (teenage) children when we go caravanning and the showers stop when the timer runs out. this shows both how much water and energy is being used for longer showers. I wish I had something like this at home to curtail their excessive
    consumption!

On the contrary, I think we are more aware of how much waterwe use when away in the van, as we have to fetch it.

at home it's so easy, and endless supply from the tap.
