Holiday 2014 at Widdicombe Farm, Torbay
Thursday 19th June
We left home at 6.30am and stopped on the A35 just passed the turning off for West Bay at 8.00am for tea and toast (Joe had chips – what a surprise???). Took off again at 9.15am and we arrived at Widdicombe Farm at 11.00. By the time we had paid the holiday we were all in place by 11.15. Two hours later and feeling rather hot the awning was up beds made and all unpacked. As it was such a hot day we stayed at the site enjoying the lovely weather and chatting to our neighbours. After tea of pizza we went to the club house for a glass of wine perfect ending to the day.
Friday 20th June
Woke to a beautiful sunny day. We decided to go to Plymouth to check out a caravan park. Roads weren’t too bad but the site we found wasn‘t suitable. We went on to Looe and suddenly remembered this was where we were with Pat and Alan. We had fish and chips in the same café then had a nice wander around. We had a good drive round seeing lots of different places. It was really hot so it was nice for the doggies to get back to the car to cool down. When we got back to the park we sat outside chatting. As Joe had done a lot of driving Thursday and Friday he was rather tired so we didn’t go out in the evening. Sweet and sour chicken for dinner tonight yummy.
Saturday 21st June
Another lovely sunny day. Joe and I sat in Poppies this morning enjoying a latte and reading the papers. We decided not to go out too early today so sat outside the caravan reading until 10.30 then went to Goodrington Sands. It was a beautiful beach and the boys had a great time running on the sand. We left Goodrington at 3 o’clock and did another tour round lots of lovely places. Went back to the site and read my book and cooked steak for dinner. Had a lovely shower and hair wash then we went to the Hayloft where there was a BBQ and the boys were fed sausages.
Sunday 22nd June
Left the site at 11 o’clock for Dartmouth with me driving. Found another site but it was very expensive. Joe took over the driving thank goodness as we came across a very narrow road where there was a traffic hold up. We made our way to Kingsbridge where we are as I write this, me with a glass of wine (of course) and Joe with a coke. The boys have been fed ham by a very nice man. We decided to eat at Poppies tonight – another lovey day
Monday 23rd June
Sat outside the caravan enjoying the sunshine and having a read. Brixham was the place to visit today. We went to Wall Park where we stayed in 1966 when England won the world cup (no chance this time). We found a different car park called Breakwater where there was a lovely café right on the harbour wall. A cup of tea was the first step then we walked to the centre of Brixham not too hot today. Joe won a pirate teddy, he was well pleased. We had lunch in the café then made our way home. We always seem to get back to the caravan about 4pm which is good for the boys. As we had eaten lunch we didn’t want any tea so we just went to the bar for a couple of drinks and sat outside talking, couldn’t believe the time went by so quickly.
Tuesday 24th June
Had breakfast at Poppies toast and tea then sat outside the caravan enjoying a coffee and chatting. We decided go to Shaldon Bay so that the boys could have a run on the beach. I did venture in for a paddle and the water was lovely. At one time we thought it was going to rain but it didn’t. Arrived back at the caravan at 3.15 and the sky cleared and it was a lovely afternoon. The evening is again clear and Joe has gone down to get fish and chips for tea.
Wednesday 25th June
Not so nice at the moment but no rain thank goodness. We are going to Okehampton and Plymouth today to have a look around, no beach but it is nice for the boys, I think they have had enough of the sun. Found another nice caravan park near Okehampton which we are going to book for next year. We were going to Paignton but decided to save that for tomorrow as the weather doesn’t look too promising for Thursday. Relaxing back at the caravan with a cup of tea and a read.
Thursday 26th June
Not a very nice day today thunder and lightening so we are going to Paignton. Well the rain certainly came down this morning while we were walking around but Joe did manage to win a toy for Barbara. Back at the caravan by 12 o’clock so I guess it is back to my book. A really different day to when we arrived. The weather changed this evening so after stripped lamp, potatoes and beans we went to the Hayloft for a drink.
Friday 27th June
Really heavy rain all night so we won’t be going far today. Joe took down the awning in 40 minutes which was really quick. We booked Widdicombe for 2 weeks next year. Just going to take the boys out to Preston Beach but it’s still raining. The weather turned out nice in the end and we spent a lovely day in Preston and Paignton. Dinner tonight was stripped port and potatoes which was lovely. We had our last evening at the Hayloft chatting to old friends.
Saturday 28th June
We were up and ready to leave by 10am in the pouring rain. He drive home was a bit scary to start with but the weather improved as we got nearer to home. Arrived home by 2pm and the caravan was unpacked within the hour. It’s hard to believe that we have been away for 9 wonderful sunny days. Washing all done and caravan tidy ready for the next trip.
