It’s blue skies, butterflies, bees and blossom here in El Berro, a small hillside village on the edge of the Sierra Espuña National Park. The days are sunny, but the clear blue sky changes to a star-filled black night. We’re enjoying the warmth by day, but there’s no sitting out in the evening.

We first came to El Berro in 2007, having read about Camping Sierra Espuña in MMM. Since then, this small site has become popular with British campers seeking peace and quiet, bird-watching, walking, or cycling. The road from Alhama de Murcia to el Berro is only 14 kilometres but its twists and bends would be a challenge to large outfits; having said that, an RV made it here yesterday evening.

It’s good to see that the local olive and almond groves, some previously neglected, are being brought back into use. They’re being weeded and furrowed to catch what little rain falls here even in winter.

Tomorrow, the 24th is Chas’s 70th birthday so, unusually for a Scottish person, he’s standing his round in the campsite bar! We’ve met a lot of new chums since we arrived, and renewed some old valuable friendships so it could be an expensive evening.

Hope you like the photos.

Happy Birthday Chas, you share it with our Spanish friend, Yolanda, who also lives in Murcia. The weather sounds good but I think it is forcast to become very very windy at the wekend, you had better check it out. I have just been looking up the coast at
the temperatures and saw it forcest to be 80mph at one place further north. Have a great day. Regards, Roy

It rained on my birthday (24th) in El Berro! However, we had a brilliant day, starting with presents and a special cake ( baked by our daughter) in the colours of the Spanish flag.

Our caravanning chums, Robert & Marion, drove up from la Manga for lunch in the village.

Then in the evening we had a party in the bar.

With Ian & Brenda, Ed & Sue, Mick& Sue, Phil& Carol, Malcolm & Mary, and our new Dutch friends,Annemiek & Jan

Annemiek finished the evening with two Dutch birthday songs; 'Er is er een jarig, hoera-hoera' and 'Lang zal hij leven'.
