After watching the TV program “Coast”, we decided we’d like to go to the Friesland Islands with our caravan, so here we are.

Texel, pronounced Tes – sel is a small Island just off the North Holland coast, its about 25km long and 9km wide. On first sight you would think it was like any other part of Holland, flat, but looks can be deceiving, which we found out when we got on our bicycles, there is miles upon miles of cycle paths, up, down and around the sand dunes.

They don’t get many English tourists, therefore most of the information was in Dutch or German, but the people are incredibly friendly and will help translate for you.

We stayed at Camping De Krim, just outside the village of De Cocksdorp. Ideal for families and a good base for exploring the island.

That sounds really interesting! We have friends further up towards the Danish border and have always enjoyed the coast up there!

The cycle paths are just a pipe dream for here in the UK, perhaps one day we shall visit Holland for a holiday rather than travelling south. Regards, Roy

Can't recommend it highly enough. Delftse Hout is another great site and the cycling has to be experienced to be believed.

We've been to Holland for the last 5 years and no plans to stop. Dead easy drive using the Hull ferry.
