We have just returned from a month touring scotland which in general was a very good experiance with mostly sunny and warmish weather, our experiance of campsites

1 Birmingham Chapel Lane one night stopover used it before good site

2. Kendal This one was wet, but a nice campsite bit up and down and lots of trees, pretty good though nice wardens

3 Luss CCC Club, nice wardens but a bit of a tired site, toilet blocks need refurb, ok but not as much to do in the area as we had thought unless drive miles nad miles.

4. North Ledaig. Enormous we had a pitch right at the front overlooking the beach, lovely

5 Bunree The best we couldnt have asked for more

6 Loch Ness Holiday Park. A Carpark, definatley dont pay for the facilities, the view was superb but the site!!!!!

7 Culloden. A bit on the slope but not to much of a problem, very nice site and area, Inverness ok but just a big town really, lots of other activities to see we liked Fort George and joined the National Trust at the Battle Field, worth while we must have visited a dozen castles! most where interesting and worth the effort.

8 Silver Bank Near Aberdeen What a lovely warden and his wife, well kept site and we found plenty to do

9 Balbernie We liked the park area and St Andrews, nice well kept site the warden and his lady worked very hard we thought

10. Durham Grange, Another lovely site but very busy we ended up under trees with the sun hidden, but all in all nice area particularly Durham and the Catherdal

11. Clumber Park. Loved the park area and Mr Straws House, the site very big, warned of bike theft etc didnt feel at home at all on the site but if you are a family then ideal I guess.

Home from here, total mileage of 2600 with 1339 of that towing we have a Bailey Pegusus Monarch and tow with a Citroen C4 e HDI 1.6 VTR+ Ex car no problems at all averaged o/a 45 mpg and towing was in the mid 30s. We may do it again but poss go to Sky and other places.

What was your experience of the road surfaces? We found them particularly bad.

Hi not bad as I can remember, on the West Coast I remember them being quite good but narrow and twisty in places particularly around the move from  Loch Lomond to Oban. But I live in essex and the roads around here are atrocious so not bad to me might be
    poor for others!!

I am just planning our tour in the motorhome for September & October. We will not want to use the van for days out so will try and get to places where there are things to do within easy reach by foot, bike of bus etc.

I am pretty sure I have seen an article somewhere on the club site (not forum) ir in a magazine giving two tours, one by Highlandman I think, but I cannot find them anywhere now. I wish the software would get a proper search facility the current one is rubbish.

    Glad you enjoyed your trip.

    Regards, Roy

Thanks Highlandman. I have done some inital planning and see that the sites up at the top will be closed in October so we may have to alter our route?

I searched for Tour Scotland and Highlandman & a few more phrases but still could not find them. Thanks for the link.

    Regards, Roy
