Tyron Bands abroad

Has anyone else had problems with small French garages in rural France with regard to Tyron Bands?
On recent holidays to France, we have had Tyron bands fitted on our tyres, which have "saved" us on 2 occasions that we have been unfortunate to have had blowouts. Despite the Tyron bands instructions being in French as well as English, we have found it hard to make the French understand that although it is good practice safety wise, it isn't compulsory to have the bands fitted. On both occasions my husband manually removed the Tyron band following the puncture as the garages didn't have a machine to do this. On both occasions we did have independent travel/breakdown assistance. Eventually, the garages reluctantly replaced the punctured tyre and we were able to continue on our journey/holiday.

Beverly I bought the tyron fitting and removal kit. It weights about 5-6 kgs and means you can take out the band at leisure, but still need to get access to tyre before fitter re-inflates to refit band so some language skill may be necessary. Hope we never
need to try it out for ourselves. PS we also have a band in our spare so even though its a steel wheel we can probably use it until we get home.0
