Bon Dia! It’s Spring in Cambrils: the trees are coming into leaf; the British are in shorts, and the locals have discarded their overcoats in favour of jumpers and cardigans. Yesterday the sign outside a ‘farmacia’ said it was +25.5 so we retreated to the beach just across the promenade from our campsite. Today, there is refreshing breeze coming off the sea.

Cambrils is a stylish, low-rise, Spanish holiday resort. It has a marina and a fishing port. The promenade stretches from one end of the bay to the other and has a dedicated cycle track along its length. It’s best you stick to cycling as a sign says ‘Peddling is Illegal on the Promenade’.*

Camping Joan is a well-run campsite (by Joan herself), at the western end of the town. There’s direct access to the beach and promenade via a secure gate. The campsite doesn’t open until the end if February, so there were plenty of pitches to choose from when we arrived. The trees are trained to provide summer shade, so motorhomers need to pick their pitch carefully!

This is the start of ‘Setmana Santa’ ( Holy Week) and school holidays. Suddenly, we’ve acquired lively Spanish neighbours, and the hitherto vacant caravans are lit up. Many of you will have experienced this transformation when caravanning in Spain! However, we’re leaving for France tomorrow.

Hope you like the photos

Chas & Catherine

‘*’ Not a spelling mistake. Curiously, it’s the buyer who risks a fine of 300 Euros, so don’t be tempted by fake designer sunglasses!
