Serendipity Switzerland
At the end of May 2007 we set off for Italy, visiting Switzerland for the first time with the caravan. At least that was the intention. We had got as far as Obernai, in Alsace, when we heard that Margaret’s mother had been taken ill back in the UK. It did not, at that stage require a return to the UK, but we thought that we should reconsider our trip and how far we ventured.
We quickly replaned our itinerary to restrict ourselves to going no further than Switzerland. We were unable to stay at Obernai Municipal campsite for more than an overnight as they were expecting a rally so we move on to just south of Colmar where we stayed for a few days. From here we ventured into Switzerland. First to a campsite near Frutigen high up in the mountains not far from the Kandersteg Tunnel. We had thought about using the Tunnel with the caravan (loaded onto a train) but a solo trip through with the car and we chickened out! Not a bit like the Channel Tunnel! From Frutigen we went onto a campsite near Solothurn. From here we explored the surrounding countryside. Like our first stop in Switzerland we were still in the German speaking part of the country. Our last site in Switzerland was at Morges on the shores of Lac Leman in the French speaking part of Switzerland. It seemed to have a totally different character and public toilets which were completely missing from the German speaking part!
Fortunately things at home had not got any worse so that whilst we had not got to Italy we had enjoyed our short stay in Switzerland. We made our way back to Geneva and up through France with three further short duration stops on the way home.

Your photos bring back some fantastic memories of a family holiday we had when I was a child staying on a campsite in Switzerland in our trailer tent. Switzerland is so lovely in the summer and we had such a wonderful time. I will have to dig out some of
the photos from the family album!0
