Postcard from Alvor
We’re very fortunate to be enjoying fine weather in the Algarve at Alvor, a fishing village and small resort just west of Portimão. We’d like to share a few pictures with you.
We’ve been here for a week, having taken six weeks to get here, and we’ll probably stay another week before heading back into Spain. The daytime air temperatures have been around 20C with a cooling breeze off the sea, just right for an hour’s walk along the beautiful beach. It’s a near-perfect time to be here: there are no crowds, yet there are enough cafés, shops and restaurants open to keep things ticking over. T shirts and shorts are the dress of the day, but a slight chill means that the evenings are spent in the ‘van.
We’re at ‘Camping Alvor’ (formerly ‘Campismo da Dourada). The site is just above the old town and it’s an easy walk down to the small promenade and then to the magnificent beach. A network of boardwalks has been created along the dunes to ease access and to prevent erosion.
The campsite has been greatly improved in the last year by a new young manager. There are now marked pitches, although very few are level and a lot of chocking is required. As we’re staying more than three nights, we’re paying 9 euros a day. This includes electric supply (6 amps), hot showers and free wifi. The swimming pool is being filled this week!
We hope you like the photos
