A Scottish tour.....
My idea of heaven? well, pretty much... Others may like to try this mini-tour... start around Stirling, head for Shiel Bridge (ideal for walking and side tours of Skye), next stop Altnaharra (more walking?) and long drives along the coast to Cape Wrath. Next a short hop to Dunnet Bay, visiting Dunnet Head, the Castle of Mey, but missing out John O'Groats before returning to Stirling before heading south... It may take more than the standard 2 weeks - but it will stay with you a lifetime - Enjoy! p.s. I've also toured on the continent - but this one takes some beating for me. If you don't like the long hauls ,or if you fancy the westerly route from Shiel Bridge to Altnaharra there is a fabulous commercial site at Scourie. You can also break the journey south from Thurso at Inverness(Culloden CC site). So much choice - and I doubt you'll find a full site!

We spend May/June in the highlands each year but by Campervan, which I believe is the ideal transport. A tour with some toing and froing will take 1500 miles, maybe 350 to Sterling each way for starters from the Midlands. Diesel outside town supermatrkets
will probably be £1-55 per litre this year. The further North you go the narrower the roads and in many cases single track with passing places. Large outfits beware and slow is the norm. Plenty of commercial sites at about £15 per night. Quality is very variable
and CL's sparse. From late May the MIDGE can be a problem. plenty of inhibitors. If like me you fish a full head midge net is essential.Motorcaravaners in particular can have some spectacular wild camping being fully self contained and light until midninght.Favourite
places, Kinlochewe, Gairloch, Scourie, Durness and the whole top coast to Wick. If you only go once then dont miss Skye, but if the mist is down you might. Appart from start date we make no plans as you will invariably be distracted or in my case find a new
remote loch.0 -
Agree with all comments. Probably fuel costs will be even higher after the recent increases! I recall paying £1.44 for diesel nearly 4 years ago in Scourie - but worth it for the chance to get to Sandwood Bay and Cape Wrath. And with quieter roads you
get a higher mpg when driving solo.. Site fees are very comparable.0
