My favourite Tow Car was a Triumph Herlad 1200 Convertable, the caravan a Sprite 400. I was 27 at the time and my wife just 21, We purchased the Sprite at the Caravan Show for £299.00 in 1967 and picked it up at Easter 1968. My first tow was from the West Midlands Caravan Dealer to our home in Hampshire. We visited many CL's around the South and South West, and one trip to the South of France in 1971 with our 6 month old son on the back seat in a carry cot. On that trip we parked up for the night on the last leg of our journey south. In the morning we set off and then the Charging light came on. What do we do, We travelled on and came across a small car workshop, with 2 Jags and other sports car inside. The owner looked at our Herald and diagnosed worn out brushes in the Generator. He looked and did not have the right ones. So he found a similar set and proceeded to file them down so they fitted. They are still on the car today.

Not many folk owned caravans in those days, but to see a Convertable Herald with a young couple in it driving along towing a caravan we had many people wave to us, A GREAT LIFE need I say any more

My Mum and Dad also towed a sprite with a pale blue herald convertable up and down the hills in Scotland, they didn't go very fast but had some great times and like you say it made people look twice.

I must say that our favourite tow car is the KIA SEDONA we collect our third one on tuesday. We have been caravaners for 40 years so we have had a few tow cars in our time this has got to be the easyest to tow with, just click on the cruise control and point
the car in the right direction. don't have to change gears very much. at 60 mph we get about 26 mpg diesal. the first two were 2.9 engines this one is the 2.2 suppose to be better on fuel, we'll see.

Amazing! I had a Triumph Herald in my younger days, and drove up to the Cairngorms to go skiing- to find that the car lost power due to the altitude! I never thought a Herald would be any good as a towcar- certainly must have turned heads!

Just to let you know the 2.2 sedona tows very well and gets 2.5 mpg more than the 2.9. But it doe's not like 6th gear at 60 mph thats about 1900 rpm, and uses more fuel, at about 63/64 its not too bad in 6th but thats too fast for me and the law. Much smoother
engine and not as noisy. Very nice car.
