Houghton Mill - the long way round

Our first ever Caravan Club trip to Houghton Mill and we were welcomed with fizz and cake! Wow we thought, they really know how to spoil their members until we were politely reminded that it was the celebration for Will and Kates wedding!  Oh well, the cake went down well and the site was perfect.

After eventually getting set up after a hiccup with the electricity -  Andy getting frustrated that the electricity wasn't working until I asked the warden (why won't men ask for help?) and was told to turn and click the power supply - sorted.

We promptly visited the pub and settled down for the evening, excited about the next day and a walk to St Ives.  Mnnn, not the best at directions we asked for help - just follow the "Thicket Road", so off we went - and ended up in Godmanchester!  I would like to add that I did say we were going in the wrong direction but the boys ignored me.  Oh well, it was a nice walk along the river and through the nature reserve (and back again).  When we eventually got to St Ives it was beautiful and vowed we would return to Houghton Mill and take a boat trip and go back to the excellent pubs in the lovely villages.

Now we are fully fledged caravanners (!) and can't wait to have even more trips, this one was defintely 5 star and all the family loved it!

The first time I stayed at Grafham Water CC site I saw that Houghton Mill site was quite close, so I visited it when I went to visit the mill (NT property). I really liked what I saw, so I booked in for a stay later that year. The village square is only
a short walk away, with an excellent general store type shop, too.
