August Bank Holiday Weekend 2012 - Don't miss Wirral
We spent the holiday weekend at Chester Fairoaks CC site and one of the days we thought we would drive up Wirral, go under the Mersey Tunnel and go to Liverpool. We did eventually get to Liverpool but not on that day. I didn't realise how good Wirral was to visit and we spend the whole day there.
We started by looking for the National Trust land at Caldy, but must have missed it somewhere down the line so ended up at West Kirby where there is a marina. We didn't walk around it but we could see that the more energetic folk were going for it.
We went on up 'across the top' and ended up on a long beach somewhere between Hoylake and Wallasey, where the dog had a good run and the wife and daughter got soaked trying to stop her chasing birds. We liked the modern look on New Brighton although the view of the industry 'the other side of the Mersey' would have put us off visiting for more than a quick look. We travelled down the banks of the Mersey and pulled over just south of Seacombe Ferry Terminal where there were some really good views of Liverpool and the Liver building, in particular.
We headed South, through Birkenhead and eventually pulled over for a short walk at Eastham Country Park where we also went into the visitor centre. By this time it was getting a bit late, so we missed out Port Sunlight, which would have been worth a visit.
So for those of you who are up at Chester Fairoaks, don't forget to visit the Wirral peninsular. We were pleasantly surprised, and will return someday, I'm sure.
