Red Pennant in France

Just thought I would let members know of our experience in France last month.  On our last day we were on our way to catch the once a week only ferry from Roscoff to Cork and towing our van, when there was a loud bang and our tow car lost all power.  Luckily we managed to pull in to a SOS spot; we phoned Red Pennant from out mobile and got through to Anne who was so helpful and gave us instruction on how to proceed.  Within 20 minutes a French mechanic arrive to make repairs and Anne spoke to him and then translated what he said to her back to us.  From the time of our first call to Red Pennant to being safely back on the road was 90 minutes which is pretty good.  So we would strongly recomment Red Pennant to members as our one incident, while not too serious, more than covered the cost of the policy.  Thanks again to Anne.

Well that was a comforting story, good to hear you had such prompt attention.

It has always been a nightmare to us, if we should break down  whilst abroad, but your story made us feel much better in the knowledge that help is quickly at hand & without the difficulty of the language barrier.

You can read our experience this week under Discussions in the overseas section. We did not use Red Pennant and had a total auto gearbox failure. We were flown back to UK via BA so can't complain about the ultimate outcome however it took from 9 am when
we first called until 5 pm to get flight details. We were helped enormously by the BMW garage we were towed at no cost and without giving them any work! We now have to wait up to three weeks to get our car and van back to UK.

My entry April 12th 2012 (in reply to 'Red Pennant too expensive') is a similar story how RP turned a potential nightmare into a slight inconvenience - never underestimate the value of having a French speaker doing the talking/negotiation for you.

    Anne

Glad you got everything sorted so quickly. I think this would be better posted in the Overseas section of the forum as I think more people would see it.

Just a word of warning with green flag/mayday, i was at poolsbrook club site when i had a accident  breaking my leg, the wardens on site told my wife not to worry as greenflag/ mayday would get my caravan home, this is not the case as its only if your vehicle
is involved in a accident, i have since spoken to many members who thought they were covered for that sort of emergency, so if you want that type of cover join the A A.

We wrote our new 'van off in France last year on our first day, The Girls of Red Pennant took over, everything was arranged for us at a very stressful time, as the saying goes "Don't leave home without it"  Fantastic Service.

Earlier in the year we met an old couple who had two different problems during their holiday an France and Red Pennant had sorted them out quickly.

I was impressed with the service (to witness one event), particularly in over 25 years of club membership it was the 1st time we had taken out Red Pennant (thankfully didnt have to test the service)
