We arrived at Whitby on Saturday from Knaresborough for the second stop on our Yorkshire mini-tour. The sun was shining, the wind was blowing and enormous waves were crashing on the beach and rocks.

It was a beautiful day, and just right for a bracing walk into the town, starting on the footpath to the beach nearby.

The famous ruined abbey sits above the harbour.

We’re limited to how far we can walk, while Catherine regains her strength, and we try to avoid gradients.

Fortunately, there’s a good bus service from our campsite (Sandfield House Farm) to Whitby.

Whitby has attractions for everyone: picturesque streets, the harbour side, the Abbey, the beach, fishing trips; and traditional British-seaside candy floss, amusements and fish and chips!

And next to the whale’s jawbone, the town’s most famous explorer – Captain Cook.

Yesterday we travelled 22 miles to our next stop the C3 Scarborough site for more Yorkshire sunshine and showers.

Whitby (North Yorks Moors) is one of the few Club sites we use as it is remote in the hills and quiet as there is no toilet block. Glad you enjoyed the area. So much to see and do on this stretch of coast.

Hi Chas & Cath. Good to see you up and about again and in such a beautiful area!

The last time I was there i sat on the little harbour wall, eating fish & chips and watched the fishermen unloading tomorrow's dinner.

We're off to Scotland just after Christmas until New Year and praying for nice weather, just so that we can get there!

    All the best
