How do we move on?

I feel a group hug coming on
You keep your muddy paws to yourself. The last thing I want is an embrace by a slobbery dog.

There seem to be three sorts of contributors on here. 1. Those who want advice. 2. Those who are happy to give advice. 3. Those who just want to chat, discuss, natter, and argue with each other.
I think you can pretty much judge which group posters fit into by the stars they display.

One thing that is missing IMO is a section on Technology. Hopefully this will be addressed in the new forum. At the moment information of this type is dispersed amongst many sections. A specific place to put queries of this type and a reliable search routine, that would allow searches of specific sections, would be invaluable and greatly enhance the forum.
Steve
Whilst I agree with you it does present some difficulties. If it were Home Technology it would fit nicely in the Social Room but if it was also to encompass hobby related technology it could get a bit confusing? What had you in mind to include in the section?

PD, I'm loving the irony there, excellent.

I think the problem the forum faces is that there are so many other places where discussions take place. It is suggested only about 20 people post regularly for example. I belong to a facebook group called Motorhome Madness that has in excess of 7,000 members,
2,000 of which have joined in the last few months. I suggest that, to a newcomer, this forum looks very old fashioned. No way to post photographs for instance.0 -

Are there 20 regular posters? Probably not, just now there at least 30 different people posting, plus a continuous flow of reviews from many others. It might appear that there are regulars on certain threads but I think this changes throughout the year.
If you can't post a photo in this area you can at least add photos in the story section and it would be good to see more posters on there with some new stories and ideas.

I was mainly thinking about technology which related to the caravanning / motorhoming pass time. So things like satalite systems, signal boosters, wifi camera systems, TV's, computers, pads and sat navs. I appreciate there would be an overlap with things
like camera systems, which might be used for wildlife photography, however I still think they would be better under the technology heading. Clearly there are some things that would be best left under general chat, such as the house alarms thread currently
going. However, the current HDMI thread would probably fit better into technology than general chat.0 -

The stories section is about the least friendly area of the whole web site, it needs a drastic overhaul then I might be tempted?

I suppose when you add all those things together it is quite a list and would comfortably sit under Information, Technical Tips & Advice. I have often thought that it was a section that was missing and often the questions get a bit lost under Parts and Accessories. Perhaps we should put it to Rochelle if there was enough support for it?

If you are using an iPad there are certainly difficulties with posting pictures anywhere let alone the Story Section. However if you use a Windows based system its pretty easy to get the first five pictures loaded and relatively easy to add extra pictures
if you are inclined. Here is an

I don't go there much after the first few forays but basic functiions like edit or spell checker are none existant. Any good story is quickly lost in amongst the dross and there is no search facility and with just two headings of Out and About and Overseas
Touring it doesn't make it easy to find a story about going to a particular destination or event.peedee.

I must admit we don't add photos as we rarely turn on our windows machine and normally use our iPads. However, as with posts of any length, stories are best compiled in an editor, where the spell checker works and things can be easily reorganised. For the
ipad, Pages is good which OH uses, or office note which I prefer. Then just copy and paste.0 -
Agree Steve but in the early days I had not realised this being more familiar with other forums approaches to blogs. It was the same with the time out on the site, but it does not take long to catch on.
It is still useful to be able to update stories with new information. That is the main reason I provide a link to all but one of mine (the first one) so I can keep control of the content.

This is a quote from a post by Rowena in 2012,
“I can assure you we do take members feedback very seriously, but with such a large and diverse membership unfortunately it’s not possible to please everyone. We have a members survey panel of over 9,000 and we regularly send surveys to see how we can make
improvements, ask for feedback and find out what members do and don’t like about The Caravan Club – and we do take the results on board. If you are not already a member of the research panel we would be delighted if you joined.
We’ve launched Club Together to give members the opportunity to interact and we are monitoring the feedback and discussions – we’ll be using it to help us improve our products and services and help make decisions going forward.”Things have changed so much over recent years, some of it for the better IMHO.
Wherever we go from here I hope it includes easier ways to post a picture.

Perhaps as a Mod I have the advantage that I can go back and edit my stories which allows me to add more pictures into the body of the story. Perhaps there is a case for a slightly longer editing window with stories than currently available but I have no idea how practical that suggesting is and I think it would have to be discussed with Rochelle.
If people have the means to add pictures I would really encourage them to make the effort as it really does add life to a story.

Not having uploaded photos anywhere I looked for & found help on the Photo Uploading thread. From this I realised a lot depended on what you used & the software. I gather ipads/iphones don't have Adobe Flash so won't work. & that resizing is necessary whatever software is used. I had to try a number of times before suceeding. This is resized small.

Being able to edit a story for an extended period, would probably make it more likely we would get round cranking up the windows machine to insert them. However, I am hoping that is all academic as the new software will allow easy insertion from an iPad
or android device.0 -
It can be a bit off putting to newcomers to be told not to ask questions but to just search to see if their query has been asked before.
I first posted the first week the forum started. I tend to pop in when I have something to either ask or wish to discuss.
What I can't be bothered to do is search and troll through long threads on the off chance that my question will be answered.

I really do think photos are important in the story section particularly. Although, like DavidK I have the facility to go back and edit, as a moderator, I find the easiest way of adding photos is but adding them to the comment boxes at the bottom. This
enables me to add them when I have time to do it. Anyone can use this method without having to worry about editing the initial contribution.David
