There seem to be three sorts of contributors on here. 1. Those who want advice.  2. Those who are happy to give advice.  3. Those who just want to chat, discuss, natter, and argue with each other.

The first group has shrunk as people realise they can get rapid answers from Google -  so the second group has shrunk too. And so we are left with the third group. Is that about it?

The forum has, to a degree, matured. The Fun & Trivia does seem to be degenerating though. Endless alphabetical lists have somewhat had their day and something a little more humourous or creative is called for.

I don't think the forum was ever intended to be a means for the Club hierachy to talk to the members, as a rule they have better things to do than sit chatting on a forum, so I was surprised that there were so many complaints that this didn't happen. Then
it became quite clear that very few members actually understood how the Club is run and by whom, even though there have been attempts to explain and each AGM has a 'Who's who' - though it quickly became clear just how many members bin their magazine without
reading it and seemingly there is an equal number who don't realise the information is all on the website too !

Yet these are often the people who complain on here that no-one tells them anything ! The way forward from here?  personally, the only improvement I would like is to make it easier to post pictures but I think that may be a bit of a pipe dream because encouraging
everyone to post could just clog up the site and make it slower, I'm not on a lot of other forums but I have experienced some and none are full of photos

Have just had a look at some of the other Caravan forums from the really good and popular, to those at the other end of the scale.

The better ones are attracting good and interesting posts, and at the other end the organisers are desperately trying to keep the forums alive. .

This CC forum compares favourably with some of the best,

Don't knock it folks --- This CC forum is OK

I am a regular user of this forum, I tend to 'view' more than 'post'. I find some of the posts of no interest to me but some I open because they take my interest in relation caravanning, which after all, I presume this is what the forum is about. As a matter
of routine in the evenings I go to CT just to see whats being discussed and have an imput if I have a view or an opinion, I have also used it for advice with regard to caravanning. I am surprised that there are only about 20 regular posters, seems more than
    that to me.

I do think that the club should 'review' the forum, it has been running now for a few years, maybe do a survey to find out what the members/posters would like to see improved or changed. I for one think it would be good if they could make it easier to upload
photos on here. We all have a wealth of caravan/motorhome photos stored on our computers including the vintage ones which I think could be a great way to move the forum on.

Only 20? Didn't someone recently state at the AGM that there are 350,000 CT users? I do think most of them have made at least one post, even if it was to castigate the Chairman for his embarassing turn on COTY. I was amazed at how many knew their way onto
    the forum.

Nothing much wrong with the forum. Some brilliant advice to be found in the caravannning (and motorhome) sections. The General Chat could be seen to be getting a bit cliquey if you're a newcomer and may be intimidating to some.

Photos? Some will overuse it but if its what most want then I'm happy to have it.

I do wish that HQ would become more involved, maybe question and answer sessions, not limited to the current 2 hours every Preston Guild that currently applies. Sometimes threads have died a death waiting for replies from those Upstairs.

Overall, 8 out of 10 from me.

There might be 350,000 website users, which is an entirely different thing. You have to register with an email address, so that you can book via the website. Those who visit the forum will be a lot lower, and those who participate on a regular basis will
be a great deal lower. It takes a very unusual thread to get people posting into the hundreds. The last time I can remember dozens of different CT users actively participating was to register their thoughts and comments regarding the Caravanner of the Year
Competition, back April/May time? That certainly egged the pudding enough to create a stir! The thread will still be there somewhere, pages back. Lots of different users names contributed to that thread.Happy

    You must be joking !

The forum software is RUBBISH !

Go online to any of many comparable forums and see how the software could be made much much more user friendly.  It's no wonder there are so few regular posters.  Many people have given up and gone elsewhere.

THis sin't some new thing and would not take much money to fix, but the powers that be at the CC clearly think that it is not a priority.

Yes the software does it's job just. No one on here would say its is brilliant. But, but, what is the main aim of the club? To have a good network of sites for us to use or a good website to use. What would you rather have? Well run club sites or a fantastic website.

I tink Ct does a good job. The advice given to problems is outstanding, for example someone posts a problem with their heater on their fist night on site and answers are forthcoming almost straight away. Advice on awnings, parts, caravans, best routes, best sites... is very good too. For this alone CT is excellent. It also keeps us amused when not actually away in our favourite hobby

Yes there is banter and sometimes heated arguments but they don't detract too much from the points above.

It has been said that there is not much wrong with this Forum, and by and large I agree with that.

The exception being that we are not allowed, under 'General Chat', (or anywhere else) to discuss Politics, Religion or anything of that ilk that might get us excited.

Sadly we are left with a heap of anodyne scatology.

What we are left with is actually a forum in the main about all aspects of our hobby, with a little side chat for those that wish to digress. By banning those contentious subjects most threads are kept 'on topic', not really a bad thing ? If you really want
to discuss politics/religion etc there are general public platforms out there (facebook & twitter to name but two) so why clog up a caravanning forum?

I agree with FD  I log on once or twice a day when I'm at a loose end. I post more regularly than I used to but I only read posts that I think from the title will be of interest to me. The main problem for me is the unreliability of the software for instance
the blank page syndrome which this site suffers from.

I couldn't agree more with that reply, Alison. Those of us who have been around long enough can well remember how threads degenerated into insults and deliberately provocative posting of the sort which, by and large, is thankfully a thing of the past on
this forum. I look on General Chat in the same way that you might have a "general chat" with neighbours you meet on site while away in the van - and that definite doesn't include politics and religion!

Happy. Use left and right arrows to navigate.

Agree with both Alison and Moulesy, being long term contributors I think we've seen all the permutations on here and the balance is just about right. It will always need changes to keep it running well. I'm sure the CC are listening to some of the comments,
it would be a pointless exercise if they didn't. On the whole it's a friendly forum and new members are welcome on every section. Smile

One thing that is missing IMO is a section on Technology. Hopefully this will be addressed in the new forum. At the moment information of this type is dispersed amongst many sections. A specific place to put queries of this type and a reliable search routine,
that would allow searches of specific sections, would be invaluable and greatly enhance the forum.

The CC is quite right to disallow discussions on politics, religion, sexuality, race and skin colour.  Those subjects can offend some people.

There are plenty of normal discussions still available, such as  anything to do with caravaning,  education, wildlife, places of interest and technical subjects.

This is a nice genteel forum, with no arguments or disagreements, lets all try and keep it that way.

    Cheers.....................K
