Example one:-

www.caravanclub.co.uk

Type/click icon/click insert......link goes live...OK.

Example two:-

The above actions don't highlight the icon to insert this link?

http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/community/discussions/welcome-hobby-talk/how-to-use-club-together/createtopic

This one is copied and pasted....it is a relatevly short URL but I would not consider typing this one let alone a really long one.

Any advice welcome please.

When I use the android mobile, I type the post and copy the link (from wherever).  Then I click on a word.  On the android once I have highlighted the text I have to click on bold in order to activate the 'chain' to add the link.  Then I can access the link box and add the link.   eg HERE.

I've used your long URL above.  Hope this helps someone.

    Test.

    http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/community/discussions/welcome-hobby-talk/how-to-use-club-together/Posting-live-links/rt/1621769/

Doesn't work unfortunately......I did try every combination including the 'bold' move!

I did have a long session when I first joined the forum....I just thought it might be time for another try.

    Thanks anywaySmile

I was not able to do links for a long time. On windows 7 it was very strange, as soon as I started to type www on here the link went live without doing anything. Windows 10 has been different.

I can now do links. I copy the url at the top of the page, using this thread url as an example I highlight a word (I've used "example" this time.) This brings up the link icon. Clicking on this icon and by using insert I paste the copied url into the link box. I can also copy the url and paste onto a page

http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/community/discussions/welcome-hobby-talk/how-to-use-club-together/Posting-live-linkrt/1621769/?showlatest=true&s/                                   If it's too long like this one I can't highlight the whole lot so it doesn't work. I have to do the link via a single word. Similar to DSB.

A short url is easier. url = uniform source locator. There are various ways round it, there are demos on Youtube if that's any help.

Keep trying you might find a way to do it!

There are different but very similar ways of posting a link.

When you want to post a long link like the one below, then copy it from wherever (I usually copy it from the website that I've googled, in the box above the website page), then paste it into your thread, then highlight it again, and the icon thingy (chain mail like picture above where you're typing) link box opens.  Paste it again into the top URL box, select 'Open in Another Window' and it goes live as shown below.

    https://www.google.co.uk/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&rlz=1C1KMZB_enGB525GB528&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=Caravan+Club

If you want to post a short link like 'Caravan Club' then highlight the words you want to show the link (in this paragraph the words in bold) and then 'Caravan Club'  (or whatever words you highlight) becomes the live link but doesn't take up so much room, as some live links can be very long indeed.

It might be easier to actually do a real 'step by step' instruction.  I used to train people in how to use computers, and often the simplest way was to absolutely break it down into the smallest steps to make it easier to follow.

If anyone wants me to have a go I'd be happy to do so.

This is the odd thing for me I can't highlight more than one line. I don't know if this is me or the website.Frown

    David,

I currently use Windows 10 and IE 11.

Have never used, nor had to use, any other setup from the days that Windows was invented!  Only Windows 8 was 'moved on' rather quickly and only this forum ....no comment!Smile

Now that Edge is reasonably sorted I may go there in the next few days and try it again on one of my PCs.....I'll report back in time.

I always find that Chrome works better with Club Together. Might be worth downloading it to see if it makes a difference for you.

It matters not what you think is the best personally, if you want to adapt to oddball forums you have to try all browsers and 'fixes'. With Windows 10 I have shortcuts for Firefox, Chrome, IE11 and Edge, and I'll use the one that works best which in this case is Firefox for links and photos.

EJB don't give up, you'll get there in the end. As DaveFL2 says try different browsers if needed. I have found Chrome works for links.
