A recent post got a bit out of hand according to the terms and conditions.

I replied to the post and in my opinion I gave advice. I was not rude or aggressive in any way. The post did turn a bit personal between certain members and as a result approximately 3 pages were Deleted User, including my replies. The follwoing was a reason given by a staff member at HQ, "I've removed all argumentative and off topic posts from this thread"> I didn't consider my post to be within those parameters and as I said earlier I classed my repies as advisory.

I feel that out of courtesy a reply from the club to me and other innocent parties  would have been in order

I do admit to the post getting out of hand which was caused by both sides of the arguement but there as only a few involved. Maybe in future posts that go off topic should be given another title and redirected.

I will now look at my own circumstances and perhaps wonder if I should bother answering people with advice if that advice if wiped out along with other inappropriate posts

Unfortunately you didn't quote the Community Managers full reply which was

    "Hi everyone,

I'm removed all argumentative and off topic posts from this thread. Please be aware that this thread is for CL Owners to introduce themselves - please remember to read the community guidelines before posting.

    Thanks all for your understanding"

Given the reason for the thread I imagine the only purpose of a non CL owner making a comment would have been to either welcome that CL owner or to ask a question about their CL? All other posts could be considered as off topic. What people have to remember is that if a topic goes wildly off topic or argumentitive it takes a great deal of someone elses valueable time to edit the thread and in the process its possible that what might be considered as innocent posts also get Deleted User. Given the number of threads that have recently gone that way I don't think it is reasonable to expect an individual explanation why every post was Deleted User. The explanation given by the CM, albeit succinct, explained the situation.

HB, I was part of the deletions & mine like yours was not abusive or an attack. I realise the thread was not for what we posted & we got caught up in another's need to be personal. However in the big scheme it was understandable to have the deletions.

PS-a CL owner(Nicola) had Her's Deleted User too to make sense & balance the thread.

It's a fact that very often 'innocent' posts need to be Deleted User along with those deserving the action. Otherwise a couple of stand alone posts would make no sense to the reader. It's collateral damage.

    Hi HarryB,

I'm sorry you feel this way, please allow me to explain my response in the CL thread.

I has received a lot of complaints and reports about this thread, and so ended up deleting pages and pages of posts that were off topic, or could be seen as argumentative. There were lots of posts that weren’t rude or offensive, but had quoted offending
    posts.

As David mentioned earlier, it takes a lot of time to go through and edit the thread, and as there were so many posters who were edited out, I chose to respond to everyone in the thread rather than individually email everyone.

I hope this clears things up, if you would like to discuss further, you are welcome to email me at community.manager@caravanclub.co.uk

Thanks for the reply. That would have appeased the situation had it been posted immediately. Instead I sent my reply in annoyance really.

However, now that you have explained I'm sure I and others (Rocky 2) willl no doubt understand.

As I and some others tried to give advice to a new CL owner I just wonder how that can happen now.

...I agree with you as my posts were trying to give support to a cl owner who was being given some unhelpfull "advise" by persons it seems with an axe to grind

Hi Rochelle, to save time for both myself and you in the future and to stop wasting my time in the first place, I have decided not to offer any advice to new CL owners in the future...Cool

Brian, as I said in my last post, after the reminder of what the topic was for, how can we now give advice to new cl owners.

I respect your decision but think it's a pity

Thanks harry, yes it is a pity....... I think that constructive friendly advice given to new CLs is appreciated, in the majority of cases, but not by all, so to save the further disappointment of having my posts Deleted User in the future, I have decided not
to break any rules and not post. I'm sorry, but this is all I can say on the matter without being pulled up for questioning  authority so to speak ....Cool
