Having been a member since this forum started, I am disheartened to see so many threads turning into unfriendly personal attacks, often not even connected with that thread.   I won't apportion blame as group names are disallowed and would I never personally accuse any individual poster on open forum.

Even when personally attacked,--- best not to retalliate, Just ignore them.

As the situation is at its worst since the forum started, can we please see an effort by all posters to keep this forum friendly and a nice place to spend time on.

OK there will always be differences of opinion and there is nothing wrong with that. Everybody is different. But just remember if somebody disagrees with a post, by all means attack the post,-- but never the individual poster.

Working in retail I get a lot of customers come in to buy and have a chat about any subject under the sun, and some customers have some strong opinions about certain subjects ( which is not a problem ) ,but i have learnt to bite my tongue sometimes as I
don't always agree with them ,but want to keep them as a customer, but as a person they are a nice person , and the same applies on here  ,I might have a strong view about a subject ,but don't want to start an arguement ,so I just don't post , I'm quite a
chilled out person ,unless it affects me personally and then I will fight my ground ( which everyone is entitled to do)

I haven't notice any stark difference. Yes, see it going on and when that happens I just leave the post. I also loose interest in posts that go on and on without any meaningful replies.

Suppose it's all about being selective.

Personally I think the forum is so much better than it was a couple of years ago.  The conversations were full of vitriol, trolling was rife and just full of personal attacks.  Think by and large CT is just a better place to be

I've been on the forum since the very early days. Perhaps I'm a bit obtuse but I can't recall anything warranting a custodial sentence or even community service. One encounters rectal orifices in all walks of life. It is seldom a terminal experience.

On any forum, people will feel more inclined to post if their contribution is treated with respect. Everybody has the right to disagree and put forward their own ideas. But in the correct manner.

If people feel that their posts are going to be ridiculed, they just wont post. This is a shame as with a membership the size of the CC, there is a vast amount of experience and knowledge available to help others.

Yes, I'm with you on this, K.

I'd love to think we could have a CT where folk could post without thinking they might be ridiculed with expressions like loony left, bleeding hearts, tree/bunny huggers, sensitive flowers etc.

Where folk who simply follow club rules aren't accused of being pitch squatters or the something for nothing brigade.

Where folk aren't lumped together as the usual suspects or the famous five because they share a view different to another member.

Where inappropriate threads on subjects like child abuse aren't introduced and then trivialised by the use of expressions like kiddie fiddlers.

Where wardens don't have their word doubted because they state something which doesn't suit an individual's take on that subject.

And on a more personal level, where no member of any profession had to put up with frequent irrational criticism from others who clearly know little about what their work involves! Wink

I just hope that any member who might have done any of the above reads this thread and feels suitably chastised and then doesn't repeat it.

Wouldn't that make CT a much more pleasant place! Happy

Well said, Moulesy. I couldn't have put it better. It's absolutely spot on.Smile

How sad, though, that many of the perpetrators won't recognise themselves either due to being unaware of the error of their ways or to being deliberately obtuse.

    Three things.

    1. If people had to use their own name rather than a pseudonym they may be a bit more friendly to each other.

    2. Realise not everyone wants to or can live the same lifestyle as yourself and we are all different with different needs, income,  time etc.

    3. It's a club with rules, abide by them or if you don't like them don't belong, they work for the vast majority of members.

    Then it may improve.

This is the very reason I don 't even bother with some forums.  Because you are either contradicted or ridiculed by some other conributor.  I believe if you can't be helpful and/or positive in your reply don't bother.  After all the reason most people write
on these things is to get a realistic reply.

Yes M , if the small number of 5 or six people whose Group names are now not allowed were to cease their group attack activities on individual members who have a different view to the group and put a  stop their expressions you have described in your post this would be a great advantage.

The reason for this thread is to look forward to a nicer forum, not to continue age old opinions and prejudices..   Its the future which is important both to existing and new members.

We need everyone to consider what they post so that this can be a comfortable and happy forum.

So here's to happy future folks. - Lets make it happen. The future is what it's all about.

A very positive thread - Thanks.

The future is beginning to look much brighter,  this thread is an indication of those of us who want to see a happy and welcoming forum.  ( Just a few expected  negative posts from the usual small group )  but they are best ignored.

Lets make this forum a great place to post again.

I think it is now a better place as much of the above has recently disappeared. Where it does occasionally raise its ugly head we now know it can be put down to ignorance or just menace. Unfortunately there are always a few in life who wish to be be antisocial but we can't let  them spoil it for the rest of us. There are also those who have seen the error of their ways and they now deserve respect.Happy
