The only thing I know is that it is being worked on.  I guess 'no news is good news', as the saying goes...  As it is my understanding that they are working with external sources, I wouldn't mind betting that the 'powers that be' are waiting for news too.  Perhaps they are avoiding giving out information that later turns out to be difficult to achieve within a specific time scale.

    Just my personal thoughts.

They keep saying soon, but that could really mean anytime within the next 12 mths, if we're lucky.

I am beginning to wonder that with Grimstead remaining so  tight lipped and secretive  about the new software installation, if they have abandoned the whole project.

With respect to CT, that wouldn't supprise me. On the whole for what I use the web site for it works pretty well, its just CT that is soooo user unfriendly with respect to picking up new posts and of course the stories section.

jonathon, im intrigued by the expression 'when everything is finalised....'

as you know, the final scoping and signing off of an IT project will (shouldUndecided) have taken place a long time back if what you
are going to reveal 'soon' is an impending implementation date.....

if so, you will already have known for months what it is that you are intending to roll out, which elements of the club services will be new or altered, how a new CT will have been designed/constructed (ie bespoke or an off the shelf forum package)....

however, if all you are going to tell us is that you have finally decided what that scope is to be, but that implementation is not 'imminent' then members will still have a long wait.....

either way, the club has been very slow in keeping its customers in the loop.

just a few (non commercial) lines like....

the new system, which comprises an enhanced set of customer friendly business functions along with a completely revamped CT forum experience has been underway for many months.

we are now at the xxxxxxx stage of the project and the results of this hard work and testing will be delivered to you in xxxxxx

thanks for your patience in this large undertaking, im sure the wait will be worth it.....Happy

considering that (apart from technical reasons....upgrades or repeated failures) systems are generally changed to support changes in user and customer demand, youd think that the customers would have been instrumental in formulating the user requirements.....ie
we dont like what we have, this is what we would like instead.....

i dont remember the IT dept sitting in a room and deciding what functionality customers should have in the wonderful systems they are going to build for them....

so, an overview of the process so far, the highlights of what is going to be delivered and the next few key dates in the plan would be nice.....is this simple information really too much to expect?

It is very hard to understand the secrecy around this project. It was the same with the app, which just appeared in the listings. Then they dangled the special announcement carrot at us prior to its official launch at the show. What would be so wrong with
a simple proposed timescale to launch. OK it might change, but it would be better than SOON.

We were all given the opportunity via the Community Manager (Ro) to suggest what improvements we would like to see with the CT Forum - and these were fed in to the process.

We know that the club intend to improve the website and forum - and that work is ongoing to do that.

That's all we need to know in my view.

It will no doubt go-live as and when the Club decide it is fit for purpose and I'm sure we will be given information as and when they are able to provide it..

Why would/should the Club publish its project plans (at whatever level of detail) on this forum? - just to satisfy a handful of members on here (out of the 1M CC Members) who seem to be asking for it?

I can totally understand why they are just getting on with it!!

    Cheers

An estimate of one month, two months, ten years would be nice, particularly as it is already nearly two months late.

As they are corresponding with us on this thread anyway, would be so difficult to give a bit more info than SOON.

Don't rock the boat too much.  We could find CT gets turned off " . . . because the new forum will be starting shortly . . " and then where will be be?

why are people so amazed and so upset? what is the main function of this club, is it the 'production' of high quality sites to actually stay on in real life or to have this forum? What do you want your money spent on - hard drives or hard standings?

That's a good point. I only dip in here from time to time these days to see if the software I got sick of has been changed to something that works. It's annoying to see that members' funds are still being wasted on the same old rubbuish.

If the CC is going to have a forum it should be of the same high standard of the main motorhome forum (Motorhome Fun). If the CC is not going to that then they should leave it to the forums which do a proper job.

Forum is incidental to me. Having the site bookings and Search facilities improved, core business, that is desperately needed. Not off line when you want to use it!

Interesting thread of which a valid option might just appeal.

    Example :-

Does the CC website actually need a forum ?  The cc site is to enable cc customers to buy the CC's goods and services. The forum is only a tiny unimportant bolt on accessory.  Should the CC spend loads of the annual fees on a feature which is only used by a tiny proportion of CC customers.

There are so many other caravanning forums where caravanners and m/home owners can discuss their hobby.

Would it be helpful for the the CC to concentrate on their main business website  and discontinue this forum before spending the meggabucks required to bring it up to date.

This post is merely exploring one possible choice for the CC management.

Fine, close it and we can all use other forums where people don't gang up, use unpleasant terms to describe others, don't deliberately wind others up, don't write long rambling meaningless posts and are generally pleasant to each

There is indeed. Motorhome Fun doesn't even need moderators to control it Laughing
