I am with Furball above.  I log on and have a look at CT occasionally  and if I am reading a thread and see something that I agree withe or like what someone is saying I will like and perhaps comment - too scared to do much more when you see some threads Surprised I
was unaware that if I liked a particular comment that it meant a star for me - was unaware of the meaning of stars.   I might be the mystery liked Innocent without
knowing that.  Apologies if I am. Elaine

Dont  fret  about  it  Elaine  Its  a  foible  of  this  blooming  system  not  something  we  on  here  can  choose  to  do  or  not  do !

You  carry  on  using  the  C T as  you  wish  to,  just  like  the  rest  of  us  Laughing

As  for  the  "Stars"  they  are  a  meaningless  irrelevance  and  of  no  real  value  except  to  the  folks  who  want  to  leave  the  Universe  &  see  stars  of  their  own  !!

I do think we should be able to see who has 'liked) a post by clicking the words '8 people liked this' (or however many) - a bit like you can do on Facebook.  It would make it a bit more obvious to identify a serial 'liker' and might deter a serial liker,
if he/she knew they would be very easily spotted.

I do think it is nice to get likes - everyone likes to be appreciated - but perhaps they ought not to count towards 'stars'.

I don't have problem with the recipient. If they get a 'like' they have earned it. The "liker" has done nothing.

The only way you can like a post is by opening up a discussion and reading what has been written there. Some comments are quite long and can take a long time to read. Other comments are shorter. However, the overall discussion is often quite lengthy, so that anyone who likes would have to spend a lot of time going through the various posts before they could click the like button. If you like a post you just get one point. I think those who have taken the trouble to read and understand what has been written and have clicked the like button as an acknowledgement of that, surely deserve to receive the one point that they have earned. The like also serves as a reminder of where you got to in reading a discussion, so that you don't re-read what you have already read.

Not really Malc.To a serial 'liker', its just a case of opening the pages and click, click, click, click, no intention of reading the content or having an interest in the topic.

Likes" can be abused by Cliques to support fellow clique members.  We have seen "likes" being awarded to a post with no text just a smiley.  So it would appear that it is the name which is being liked not the post.

Best to discontinue Likes as it is obviously being abused.

I have noticed that a fair proportion of my posts receive mutiple likes and even a significant number of my relatively bland posts have received a single 'like'. I can't decide if I have a secret clique or whether it is the quality of the posts.
Embarassed The single ones suggest that, rather spookily, I am being stalked by a serial 'liker'. Surprised

Write your comments here...Yes it's certainly a subject that has been raised and discussed before and then dropped and then raised again. I also can't see how anything new is being said about this that hasn't already been said before.

Write your comments here...I think you're right regarding CYs posts. However, I can't see anything wrong in your posts or any reason why they shouldn't be liked.

Nearly fell off my chair at that one Malcolm as the Sunday Departures Thread, for one, has said everything that can be said many times over.

Does a comment, no matter how short, earn more points than a "like"?

If so, maybe it's "more productive" to put a comment like "+1" etc, if points matter to you.
