I have noticed that some members, rather than help another by giving a useful reply, prefer to make a smart comment or climb on their favourite hobby horse. A. Member with what seems to them to be a serious problem can do without these remarks.
Perhaps the worst of these could be removed by the monitors.

Ray, this never used to happen on this forum in the early days. It seems to be rampant now and like you say is disrespectful to the OP.
The sensible way to stop this is for any post which strays from the title subject be removed immediately by the mods.
This should be done fairly.and without favour.
As the forum contributers reduce in number, some of the few remaining are using the forum as social media. It will only get worse as more and more experienced posters who know about forum etiquete spend more time on other forums.
Lets give the forum manager time to address this problem.

Sadly some posts just lend themselves to ridicule!
that may be your view BB but it certainly isn't to a lot of us on here. A little courtesy and understanding would go a long way to making CT a better experience for us all

If someone is new and has taken the trouble to sign up for CT and they ask a question only to get the reply "google it" that's not quite in the spirit of things on here. Being on a forum is about conatct with others not Mr Google.

It's normally called 'going off topic' on a forum
Write your comments here...It is indeed EJB, and this forum has that happening more than any other I use. "Going off topic" or "Hijacking a thread" as it's otherwise known is unacceptable on any forum.
The forum manager has the responsibility to do something about " Going off topic " --- I'm sure that will be addressed shortly.---- Keeping to the point is what makes for a good discussion.

Yes, this all very true, I now think twice about posting on this forum, purely because of the handful of regulars who pounce on you as soon as they think you have posted something that they disagree with or that they dislike. I have asked why do they get
personal and nasty just because they disagree. It must put a lot of members off joining in what should be a free and easy way of sharing our pleasure of caravanning/motorhoming. Lets look forward to the new year and maybe see less of the nastyness (and moaning)
on here and more of joining in with each other to extend our pleasure.Merry Christmas to all and a happy 2016 of caravanning

Going off topic, hijacking a thread or whatever, it should in the first instance be down to the OP to cut in and request posts stick to topic, that is if he/she is sufficiently bothered. In the worst case it can always be reported.
I have not noticed it overly bad in fact it has considerably improved of late.

Sadly, this is a problem relating to so many forums, and the CC is almost certainly the worst. I entirely agree that queries should be answered simply and helpfully, but unfortunately there is a hardcore of self opinionated individuals that have an opinion
about everything and love to see themselves in print, despite the fact that they rarely offer anything truly helpful other than a smart arsed comment.0 -

Nope. If the answer is there plain and obvious on Google and questioners can't be bothered to look, and expects someone to do it for them, I shall continue to say to them that the Lord helps those who help themselves.

So can we assume you never asked for any advice when you started caravanning? Have you never asked the wardens or others on site for recommendations for places to visit or eat. Sadly it seems human communication is redundant in the age of Google.
If someone, possibly a new member posts on here asking for advice, surely the courteous thing to do is to reply if you can help, not make them feel silly for asking the question in the first place.

adopting this attitude I find many problems around CT. It is not for me to isolate negative threads that may then isolate problem causers, too negative for me.0 -

A number of the Community Guidelines do cover the situations you are describing, including hijacking of discussions etc
A particularly relevant Guideline is this one:
We all stray off topic from time-to-time but please don't hijack discussions that are about a specific subject or that are asking for advice. You may mean it as light hearted fun, but it can be interpreted as troll like behaviour to other users and can put new contributors off from taking part.
The CC Staff and Champions do step in where this gets out of hand, but of course it would help if everyone on the Forum remembered that they have signed up to the Guidelines and posted accordingly.
