Hi to all just a reply from CC
" Hi Collin, While we would hope all sensible precautions are made at all cl's, each site does have their own standards, please see the following link; http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/uk-holidays/certificated-locations/staying-at-a-cl/, safe travels ^Kathy "
Not the answer I was wanting and none committalColl

As CLs aren't owned or run by CC the same rules/guidelines applicable to Club sites can't be enforced. If, however, standards are below par, CC can withdraw the exemption certificate.
I hope you make your concerns known to the CL owner, SubE, and covered the issue in a review so other members are made aware.

You intimate that a Caravan Club rule is some kind of law....God help us!

Who mentioned:-
1 - Caravan Club
2 - Rule(s).?
Such spacing is just DANGEROUS. Unfortunately some people do not see dangers and that is why organisations have to introduce rules in order to overcome ignorance. [And not just caravaning organisations]

Ever been to CC at York 6 inches out from the marker,, get it moved very strict
Thre are only 2 CC rules ,,1 do not write on the wash room walls,, 2 obey all the rules ( Mr Mackay )0 -
Please do a review of this site Coll, as size of pitches/spacing is of importance to us, and quite a few other CL users we know. A balanced review, of good and bad points is worth its weight in gold to regular CL users. Not bothered about stuff such as noisy
neighbours, a barking dog etc.. As these probably won't affect future visitors, but issues like spacing, road noise, ground conditions are very useful. Thanks.0 -
I back up what tda & Nav say. Hate to be on a CL that I've booked in all good faith to have plenty of room between vans and not to have more than 5 vans on the site. Have you written a review of the site, Coll?

Ok I have been advised not to name the CL publicly as it colud cost me money sorry !!!!!!
Have informed CC they are looking in to it
Coll0 -
Did you read the CL description before you booked? If the descriptor says grounds of 1 acre or more the chances are there will be more than enough spacing, if on the other hand it says something like under half an acre then the alarm bells should be ringing.
To be perfectly honest if I drove on to a site and I thought the vans were too close together, I would just retreat0 -
How could the truth cost money?

I agree. Why would mentioning the name of a caravan site that operates in an unsafe way cost anyone money?
0 -
Its about whats safe , and what is reasonable.
A few feet between caravans or awnings is not i have stayed on many CLs large and small and have never had this problem , if I was told to pitch that close I would complain , if necessary go else where and report to the club .

And do a review, the Club's wheels can grind exceedingly slowly, in the meantime, unsuspecting innocents like us might choose to stay! (But only for a very short time)

I 've seen situations where two families chose to pitch caravans close together -facing each other with one open fronted awning awning facing and touching a similar one, and making a big covered area between the two caravans - -as a covered play area for children in the day time and a covered space for big family meals in an evening. It seemed very sociable. Would some of you want it banned?
0 -
Banned - unless they sign a disclaimer that they all agree to all die or suffer serious injury together in the same conflagration.
Seriously though, with that sort of increased fire load I would want to be more than six meters away from either of them.

My thoughts exactly......Come on SubaruE, please explain....

CollWrite your comments here...if I ever found a site like that, I'd be out the gate in short order - that's the one thing I can't stand- being able to pass a cup of tea tto your neighbour through his window WITHOUT leaving your own van!!!

This would not be aloud on a commercial site or a club site for good reasons ..... FIRE !

I think some of you live sheltered lives and haven't seen the camping fields at festivals like Glastonbury. Six metre spacing would be
laughed at.0 -
I think some of you live sheltered lives and haven't seen the camping fields at festivals like Glastonbury. Six metre spacing would be
laughed at.Write your comments here...Part of the "appeal"of festivals like Glastonbury is being lumped in close to other campers but they don't usually have a couple of gas bottles, gas hobs, ovens and grills, electric hook ups.CL's on the other hand are supposed to
maintain a safe distance between units with all this on board. If the site does not have room then whoever inspected it on behalf of the club may need to some extra training.Just my opinion of course.

Just very slightly off topic, I've always wondered why boats in marinas are allowed to moor up actually touching each other. They have the same potential fire risk as a caravan If not more so as boats don't have gas drop holes like caravans. A couple of
days ago three boats were destroyed in a marina not far from us. One boat caught fire which then spread to two others moored alongside.0 -
