CL recommendation Cumbria/North West Yorkshire
can anyone reccomend a cl Cumbria (preferably south) or west Yorkshire that has good off lead dog walks from site. Near or on a river or lake would be good but not a deal breaker. Nice rural views.

Not south Cumbria, but only a few minutes from M6 J40 is Yanwath Woodhouse near Penrith (number 304 in sites directory) which is a basic farm site. Slightly sloping grass pitches with EHU, toilet … but no shower.
The CL is set on the Lowther Estate, just above Lowther Holiday Park which is adjacent to the river. I don’t think you’d want to stay on the holiday park, but it does have a well stocked licensed shop, bar and restaurant/takeaway which they don’t seem to mind CL visitors using. We usually phone to order a takeaway, then walk down to collect it.
The holiday park has a dog walk, just off site along the riverside where dogs can be off lead. If you walk to the far end of the holiday park, there is a gate into the rest of Lowther estate where you can walk for miles.
Back to the CL itself …. There is a very large field adjacent to the CL which is usually empty, so great for dogs! Mr Fisher (the owner) is lovely, and always makes us feel very welcome.

Someone recently mentioned a new CL called Sandbeds, near Gressingham (north Lancs) which looks to be next to the river Lune and only about 10 mins from J35 Carnforth. Not that far from south Cumbria
We might have a drive down there at some point to check it out. Looks quite nice from the photos.

I think OH has now had a look on google street view (or something similar) and is not too happy with the access.
Kenny, do you think it's worth spending our time checking it out? I'm guessing not We'd be towing a 7.3m caravan. May be more suited
to campervans and small motorhomes?0 -

well were booked in, the owner did not mention poor access when I spoke to him. Will report back as to how tight the access actually is.

Hope the access is okay for you spk but as Kenny has had a look and has the same size van as us ... and the same car, I don't
think it's for us. We will look forward to your report though, and hope you have a great time0 -

Sorry I have put people off this cl but this is my personal finding on this site.

Don't be sorry Kenny We would prefer to rely on the judgement of another caravanner with a similar outfit to ours.
Agree, LR. Surely that's what reviews are for.

mobile broadband permitting I will post an access report on Friday evening. For the record I tow with a citroen multispace and have a lunar cosmos 462 not sure of full length incl towbar
Thanks spk From your description, I suspect that your outfit is considerably shorter than either ours, Kenny's, or nellie's, so access hopefully won't be a problem for you. I'll still be interested to hear how you go on, and your report will no doubt be of value to many members. Hope you have a great weekend

thanks Lynn
I am experienced in driving all manner of outfits and vehicles incl MH, wagons, plant, tractors and larger / longer outfits than my current one so I will try to ascertain the difficulty of a larger set up whilst navigating my way there

well this is a great site I will post a review later so will stick with the specific report on access.
don't panic Mr Mainwaring.
you turn down the side of a church in the village and after fifty yards a ninety degree left turn over narrow bridge, it is no problem at all I do not think any outfit would struggle as long as you take it wide, bloke on site with 7m van and 4x4 agreed its
no problem. The access road is single track (with some passing places) but not narrow enough to scrape sides of van on hedges but it is narrow and meeting oncoming traffic (unlikely as it is) could pose a problem so I would say if you are not confident at
reversing it could be stressfull. Once you reach the site its an easy but tight left turn.so yes access is narrow but no worse than many other sites so unless you are inexperienced I would not wory about it.
hope that helps

Thanks, spk. Will reconsider paying it a visit.
